    Joint pin lube

lubricate threads The wood threads in the shaft expand. I use Q Wax from Muellers. (www.poolndarts.com) It is specifically formulated with Carnauba Wax. I guess any wax would work. Just put some on a rag & apply to the pin. Screw cue together & unscrew. Repeat process. wipe off excess wax on...

    adding color to tip

seal tip after I get the tip flush with the ferrule, I use micro-mesh on the tip & ferrule. (1500-1800-2400-3200-3600-4000-6000-8000-12000) This brings the tip & ferrule to a high glossy shine & burnishes the side of the tip. Then the marker (usually black) wipe off with rag coat ferrule & tip...

    adding color to tip

When you install a new tip, Does it harm the tip to color it with a marker? I use a variety of different markers on the side of the new tip. I think it makes the tip look better. Does this break down some of the laminated tips? Also, Do you press all tips or just the solid soft & med tips...

    Cue length

Why is the standard length of cues at 58"? Why not 57" or 59" or 58 1/2" ? What makes the 58" the ideal cue lenght? The weight of most cues is lower than before....... due to newer faster cloth on the pool tables..... lighter cue is all that is needed to get the lighter hit for position. I...

    best glue

glue Anyone try Gorilla CA? In another thread, Varney Cues described a method used by Dennis Searing. -light film of CA on tip and ferrule. -let it dry -this primes both surfaces (absorbs into both surfaces....esp. the tip) -lightly scuff/score both surfaces -then, glue up both surfaces...

    Cue Guarantee

Some cuebuilders guarantee their cues. If a buyer comes back to you with a warped shaft. Do you make a new one at no charge? How do you know that the buyer did not leave it in the car many times? ( baking in heat or freezing in cold ) I guess it is better to build a new one free. Most...

Best way to start/finish irish linen wrap?

w-40 The w-40 on the loop piece of wrap thread is for lubrication. When you pull the end of the wrap thread thru(inside of the loop thread) ...it goes under the ~ 8-10 last threads of the wrap alot easier. (Does not stick to the glue) You got to slowly ease it thru! Patience.........one...
