    Conversation with a Chess Player?

In chess, you have "opening theory", which is essentially a bunch of well known moves and positions, along with all of the traps and opportunities that go along with it, and that's how you typically start your game. There are also all of the ideas that go with the position...are you going for a...

    Table-Buying Dilemma

I'd prefer a GC, but I did a lot of playing on Gandys. Yeah, they're not quite as nice but the ones I played on seemed to be setup well and played just fine best I could tell. I'd be interested in hearing what RKC thinks. Other than it's not a GC, and it's maybe not as heavy duty, I don't...

    Conversation with a Chess Player?

In terms of strategy, it's not even close. Chess is orders of magnitude more complex and nuanced than pool. That may not me obvious if you play chess at very low beginner level, but at the level of a typical club player it's already more complicated strategy wise than anything pool has to offer...

Can someone explain shot to me?

    No offense meant, Elroy.

Is Shane best on American soil with killer instinct and cig in mouth but no revo?

What about full size Shane vs 25 mini Ditkas?

Can someone explain shot to me?

Yet he couldn't make the 4 in the corner? Or did he deliberately miss the 4 to pull off the trick shot? Obviously, if the 4 goes in the cue ball goes somewhere else and the 8 doesn't go anymore. I'm sincerely trying to help, but I kind of feel like I'm being trolled, to be honest.

Can someone explain shot to me?

He was trying to follow and either swing around the 8 to the left with high right 2 rails to get on the 5, or just straight follow to miss the 8 entirely (or maybe even hit it and power through it), again 2 rails. Notice that he undercut it. If he had actually made the ball, the cue ball would...

Can someone explain shot to me?

I think my idea that he was just trying to go 2 rails to the 5 makes a lot more sense. Did Mike actually say he was playing the 8 afterwards? I can't imagine it was anything more than Mike being sarcastic.

Can someone explain shot to me?

It looks like he was trying to clip the right edge of the other ball (is that the 6?) or miss it entirely, and then drive the cue ball 2 rails for a shot on the 5. No real master plan other than keeping the cue ball on the right side of the table where there wasn't too much traffic. He hit it so...

    Tip replacement pricing

I bought the ferrule sanding machine before I had a lathe. It was so poorly built that I tried it a couple of times, and then tossed it out. It wasn't even straight. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but I got a Friday night special for sure. I found I did a much better job by hand...

    Tip replacement pricing

You don't even need a lathe. I used to do them by hand all the time. It's really not that hard. Flattening the ferrule is the hardest part, but that's easily done with a razor blade and the right technique. Doing it on the lathe is nice because it makes it easy to clean/polish the ferrule and...

    Gun stock.

Yes, I was a big RC nut back in the day. Not sure anyone actually builds anything anymore. Most of the kits have disappeared. Still have a Red Baron iron and trim iron....z-bend pliers too. And yes, some 20 to 30 year old Monokote rolls. Ah, the good 'ole days.

    ISO WICO points

Wowee...that's close! Are you heating the whole think up and letting it all flow a little, or just locally at the bend, if you don't mind answering?

    ISO WICO points

Looking much better! Have you given any thought to possibly starting with a thicker piece, bending it, and then sharping the corners by either sanding or machining (maybe with a router table and a couple of jigs)?

Can someone explain shot to me?

What make it look funny is it kissed into the 8 ball before taking off, and then kissed into it again.

    Mike Dechaine has no sponsors?

Good for you, Mike. Since you have no sponsors, I think a lot of people might be curious what you're playing for a cue/shaft since you can play pretty much anything you want now.

    New Hampshire/MA pool halls

Hey, just want to say thanks to everyone who's helping out with this. I really had no idea that it was this strong back in my old stomping grounds. It gives me some warm fuzzies knowing that there's a lot going on, especially considering that I haven't lived there in 15 years so it's all going...

Busters is where I used to play when I live in Rochester. Nice place. Glad to hear it's still around.

    New Hampshire/MA pool halls

They were there even back when I lived in Salem....1998, or so. I don't remember ever eating there, and I don't remember pool tables. I wonder if they're new or if they're always been there? That was a pretty busy time for me. I don't remember much, to be honest.
