Top 5 Pool Accessories!! You won’t believe No.1!!

I've only ever really used a sheet of scrunched-up A4 paper and a few sprays of shaft conditioner to get any grime or skin oil off my cues. Works an absolute treat and they're small enough to fit inside my aluminium snooker-style Halo case. One other thing that I'm considering investing in is a...

    Cue question

The ash grain would also help. Read that Doherty has his eye trained on a space of grain on his cue that he uses to play shots straight.

    Cue question

Ken Doherty's cue is also warped. He saw a cheap rack cue in his local snooker hall in Ranelagh and bought it from the owner for about £2. Had half the butt cut off and fitted with a 4/5 joint in it a few years ago, but he's still using the cue to this day. Honestly, it's one of the nicest...

    Cue question

I think it's a traditional holdover from the mace being used in early days, where the butt of the cue was used to shunt balls across a table. It also allows space for a cue maker to place their stamp.

    Cue question

A few reasons: • Half-joints are not comfortable when cueing, as the join itself can snag on chin hair. • Players generally prefer the feel and feedback from a cue hitting the cue ball with no joint or a joint at 16" or 12" from the butt. • A 1/2 joint is more forward-balanced than a 3/4 joint...

    Fast blackball run out

Phenomenal dish. Really glad Gareth is in the UP tournament.

    My modest cue collection

I think it's my distaste of how American cues look in general, but I think the nicest looking of the bunch have to be the two bar cues. No wraps or inlays, just plain one-piece butt and shaft timber.

"Snooker is *torture* at all skill levels . . . pool is *fun* at all skill levels."

I find that snooker pockets are a little more generous than English pool pockets, which is great for chaining a break in and around the black. But, yes, to an American trying to pot balls into rounded pockets, it can be a real challenge. You can't cheat English pool or snooker pockets nearly as...

    Ronnie O’Sullivan

Reminds me of that Barry Hawkins frame against Marco Fu where he potted a red into the middle pocket off the break – only this time, Ronnie was using a Quinten Hann-style break into the pack.

Snooker player Shaun Murphy says Amateurs shouldnt be allowed to play with pros....

It's Triangle. I know he tends to flip-flop between the two.

Poll: What do you enjoy most about reading/posting on AzBilliards?

I picked other. I enjoy the rare discussions regarding snooker or English pool equipment, especially regarding cues.

    The perfect break cue

My break cue for English pool is already fantastic, but if I had to choose, I'd bump the tip size up from 10mm to 11/11.5mm. Weight is fine at 16oz and the length is fine at 58".

What Cue Specs do you prefer?

For English pool, pretty much what the specs are in my signature - though my next cue (should I get one) will have an 8.75mm tip. For snooker, it's 57", 9.5mm tip and about 18oz.

What tips and chalk is everyone using?

To preface this, I'm not much of a snooker player. I do dabble in the odd frame from time to time should the opportunity present itself, but my passion is English pool. I thought I'd pose the question, nonetheless, since snooker cues and English pool cues are essentially the same sticks with...

How many people here play with a fancy custom cue?

I wouldn't exactly call my cue "fancy", but it is custom made. Set me back about €500, plus shipping. I had previously been using €100 snooker cues, but I wanted something with a really nice splice design and specs that suited me for English pool. Peradon Custom (57" • 17.5oz • 9mm Elk Pro)

I just played snooker on a valley table

I've played a few mess frames of nine-ball using the colours (yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black) and three reds. It was pretty fun.

    Pool-Pandemic-Pool

I've played only a handful of frames of pool since lockdowns ended here in Ireland. I would love to get back to a snooker table soon for a knockabout, too, but I haven't had a chance yet. Had a custom cue made for me during the starting months of the pandemic, and I really do wish I could use...

    Snooker cues

Nice. I'm partial to one-pieces over 3/4s, but it does certainly look nice. Any idea what wood was used in the face splice? It looks like the same ovangkol used on Parris Traditionals, just with added plum/maple veneers.

    Snooker cues

Did you go for any splice designs or is it plain ebony?

    Grey felt?

It looks fantastic on English pool tables. Though, if I played American pool, I think I'd prefer blue or green cloth.
