Rubbing the cue ball on the rail

Honestly, if the cue ball has chalk marks, I usually just clean it with my cue towel. Quick and effective.

    Why tournament blue?

I prefer green because it's what I'm used to on English tables. However, I really wouldn't be opposed to a blue napped cloth. It looks fantastic with the Pro Cup balls.

What MM shaft do you prefer?

I play English pool, mostly. My cue is also 9mm. Nice happy medium between good spin and less unwanted side.

Case - What is your preference

Since I'm an English pool player, I use a black Halo-style aluminium one-piece case for my cue. For snooker, I used a red and black checkered patchwork wooden case.

Players that DON'T like a slick shaft

I carry a cue towel and a few sheets of A4 paper in my case. Both work wonders for getting rid of grime and sweat build-up on the shaft.

    Tip for snooker cue

I've been using Elk Masters on my snooker cues, but I've been wanting to branch out and try other tips. Never tried any milk duds, so I can't comment. Trying an Elk Pro on my English pool cue at the moment, but I've also heard fantastic things about ADR147 and Mike Wooldridge tips.

    Cue make and specialisations?

Do you feel hampered with cue ball spin by using a 9.5mm tip, Scott? I certainly did using my snooker cue for pool, so I'm hoping half a millimetre down to my 9mm tip will do me some good. I own a Woods cue for snooker. Cheap enough price for a Chinese snooker cue, but I didn't want to invest a...

    Cue make and specialisations?

If I have the patience and enough cash down the line, should something happen to my Peradon, I think I'll be investing in a Mike Wooldridge. Maybe a Jason Owen, too. Who knows? Love the podcasts, by the way, lads. Keep it up!

    Square cored cues?

My English pool cue has a square ash core at the base with an SD joint through it, but apart from the Shuken cues, I've hardly ever seen them in American cues.

Ratio of Pool Skill to Money Spent (or Given) on Cues

Yeah, as Thunder Thighs said, I play English pool, which uses a 1 7/8" cue ball. It's a touch smaller than the size of a snooker one, so a smaller tip is recommended. My snooker cue is 58" long, 19.5oz in weight, and with a 9.5mm tip, compared to my pool cue (57", 17.5oz and 9mm).

Ratio of Pool Skill to Money Spent (or Given) on Cues

I own one custom cue (main playing cue for pool), which cost me just over €500, and I also own four sub-€100 snooker cues - the lastest of which being my main playing cue for snooker. I had a hard time playing pool with my snooker cue as it was a little too heavy and had a tip just too wide for...

    Cue make and specialisations?

That's so cool. Any pics of it? Would love to see it. Would you use it for snooker, or is it purely for pool, like mine?

Can someone please straighten my snooker cue?

I've heard hanging the cue from the tip for a few days in a warm room can straighten snooker cues out from weight alone. Safest option is to take it to a cuesmith and have it straightened out for you. TSF has a number of threads on dealing with cue warpage.

    Cue make and specialisations?

Always a fan of cue threads, so I'm curious to know what your cue is. Feel free to post the cue make and specialisations below. Pictures are encouraged. I use a custom made Peradon. It's a one-piece at 57" long, 17.5oz in weight, and the tip is 9mm.

    What's in your case?

Are you not worried about it warping in your car?

    New Years Resolution

    • Lose my lockdown belly • Achieve a >30 break in snooker • Try out my custom cue properly

    What's in your case?

Leisureplex in Blanchardstown. I don't tend to play often, but when I do go, it's usually for snooker (or at least pool on a snooker table).

Playing pool seems like an eternity ago....

I still haven't gotten a chance to try out my custom cue yet that I received back in July, and I doubt that'll be the case for some time. Last night in Ireland, we recorded our highest COVID case figure. Things are getting pretty worrying.

    What's in your case?

Never tried any maple cues, myself. I guess I prefer ash's grain structure.

    What's in your case?

I recognise your username from TSF. Good to see another member on here. Maximus Cues sound amazing. Do you have a preference over ash or maple?
