Why Do So Many Bar Room Recreational 8-Ball Players Cling to the Nonsense Outdated Rules?

It's a gambling game that is fast paced and gives the less skilled players a chance to win. Low skill game for lower skilled players.

    APA/Fargo cut off?

Pool players always have an excuse. One of the most popular is accusing ones opponent of sandbagging.

    APA/Fargo cut off?

I know a lot of players. Many of them regularly travel out of state to play pool. People are always moving around. A completely isolated community of pool players is far outside the norm.

Why Do So Many Bar Room Recreational 8-Ball Players Cling to the Nonsense Outdated Rules?

Maybe "allow one to foul without paying a penalty" is an improved phrasing.

Why Do So Many Bar Room Recreational 8-Ball Players Cling to the Nonsense Outdated Rules?

The spot shot was once a thing. It would only be a thing if balls behind the line were spotted. I'm thinking the other part of the rule was just forgotten or never learned by casual players and just persisted. Now the only time a spot shot is ever seen is in 1pkt or some wierd tourney playoff.

When playing/practicing with a lower skilled player - Do you change your strategy?

It depends of if it's someone I'm mentoring or someone I'm just killing time with. If it's just killing time I'll just play straight offense. Someone I'm mentoring gets to learn the value of a safety.

Why Do So Many Bar Room Recreational 8-Ball Players Cling to the Nonsense Outdated Rules?

I've met a couple that questioned what made them "Pro rules". "Just pull up a YouTube video of any pro playing and we'll play by the same rules". That as far as it ever goes. I'm just there to play pool and have fun. Anyone that wants to make an issue about rules can move on.

    Goodbye APA, it's been fun...

How does league take money from pro pool? Pro pool is supported by sponsors. Without those league players buying products from those sponsors there is no pro pool , just a bunch of hustlers hanging out in pool halls.

I tried out Mike Segals UBL a few years ago. It was , uh , goofy.

    Goodbye APA, it's been fun...

It's a social league that caters to bangers. It's right there in the name. The more players playing in league , any league, is a good thing for pool.

    Goodbye APA, it's been fun...

In my experience with the APA there was a vocal segment of players that were always complaining about sandbaggers. Every time they lost. Every time someone 'seemed' to shoot better than their skill level. Such complaints typically came from lower skilled players , which IMO is to be expected...
