Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

A more accurate assessment by someone who knows. Richie might go for a gaff game thinking he could outrun it anyway. Fats outsmarted him to the tune of 26K in Johnston City one year. We knew all the same people. Sizemore partnered up with Younglood to dump me and they got me for 400. Steve the...

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

More Pool Wars is also out there in Kindle version. IUniverse has the publishing rights so they sell them everywhere, in paperback or kindle. They also wholesale them to book dealers. That's why you can find cheaper versions of my books then I sell them for. I think I get about a dollar for...

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

Ronnie was notorious for doing business. He and Name Omitted often put on a big show before playing some One Pocket for supposed big money. Always very short games like 5-2 and the break. They would both take side bets all around from the crowd. And whichever guy had the most (and biggest...

Yes, you can find it online. Just search Pool Wars and More Pool Wars. They are both ebooks now.

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

Rick was a little bit crazy when angered. He would fight! I saw him get in a poolroom beef and break a cue and try to stab the guy with it. Otherwise he was a nice guy. I never had a problem around him. I think he's been gone a long time now.

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

That's Cole, T-Shirt and jeans all day long. At his peak in his late teens and early 20's Cole could hold his own (or better) against anyone. NO ONE sought him out to play if they knew him! Without a spot that is. For Buddy or Mike to play Cole 9-Ball the conditions had to be just right, like...

    Bai Yulu 145 in Snooker

I found this on Youtube but so far am unable to post it on here. Maybe someone can help me and add it to this thread. Yulu is the women's world champion in Snooker and this is her record breaking run, a real thing of beauty. A must see for AZ fans. She runs a perfect 145 without breaking a...

    Cole Dickson vs. Richie Florence

They did play, more than once. Their match ups made them both better players. When I asked Cole about how he played Denny his response was "I had a hard time with him." Denny came down to L.A. and beat the PayPal game at the Billiard Palace and had an epic 9-Ball battle with Richie that went...

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

This "story" is much too similar to the one where a teenage Earl took on Mike Sigel. This is plagiarised word for word from that.

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

Thanks Jam. Keith nailed it there. Cole had that strong powerful voice and his words were always right on to capture the moment. He could put you in your place if you weren't careful and he never backed away from anyone in a verbal confrontation. Keith was different there too. His spontaneous...

Cole Dickson: Livin' large off the fat of the land

Cole was probably playing at about 60-70% his top speed then, if that. The Cole of the early 70's was a killer! He was probably only the Call Eight under Richie Florence and maybe the same over young Keith. He ran over just about everybody who crossed his path back then. Hustlers beware, Cole...

Just started watching the 10 ball on ultimate pool.

I'm here now! In all the years I've been coming here I never played pool on the base at Clark. There used to be some decent small stakes action in the bars along walking street. Like in Margaritaville (now closed and relocated) they had two challenge tables where they played Eight Ball for a...

    What is pocket speed?

I like this explanation. Enough said. ShootingArts and HawaiianEye are two of my favorite posters. I think we all went to the same school. ;)

    International Open 2025

It will get better in the second round after all the 500 and 600 players are gone. A 750 player is definitely capable of competing with anyone. There are a lot of very good players who play in that 740-760 range. They can handle an open rack as good as anyone. It's on the game's finer points...

I vaguely recall now Brian telling me he sold his share years ago when we met up in Vegas. Thnx for reminding me.

Just started watching the 10 ball on ultimate pool.

You won't find a bar table in the Philippines, not one! I've never seen one anywhere I've been. There just not a thing over here (I'm there now for the holidays). I've often thought they might be popular in some places, like in the bars where space is limited. But I might take a beating here for...

    The Hustler: Behind the Scenes

That was great! Thanks for finding it and sharing it here. I was one of those young kids who became enamored with pool after seeing the movie. Jerry Orbach was a Broadway actor (mostly Off Broadway) when I arrived in the early 60's. He would come in to Guys and Dolls after his play was over...

A List of the Greatest Pool Players of All-Time

The sign outside still looks good :). It had been heading downhill as a poolroom for several years (neglect), and after he passed away it was either close it or convert it to a better use. Hawaiian Brian's had a great run, over three decades of success.

A List of the Greatest Pool Players of All-Time

I played Brian several times in the early 70's in my poolroom. He gave me the seven ball in 9-Ball and 9-7 in One Pocket. His game seemed to get better every time we played and the results only got worse for me. He was just so much fun for me to play with that I never could resist making a game...
