How about AJ and Jaybee! That's what I've been talking about. There's probably a dozen more teens who play their speed. Some may not want the exposure and others may not have been able to come up with the $500 entry fee. Many of the other excellent Pinoy players on display here are in the...

    Fargo ratings men vs women

Thank you. Fourteen at 750 or above! They can compete with anyone.

I was there yesterday and it was a real zoo! People everywhere clamouring for a look at the pool players. It was like being greenside at the Masters in golf. They absolutely love the pool players here, Pinoys and foreigners alike. Seems like everybody wants something autographed, whether it be...

You must focus on every shot on these Rasson tables. Any error and the pockets will reject the ball. Great tables and a suitable test for these top players.

San Miguel tour was Philippine oriented. Today's "tour" encompasses all of SE Asia.

    Fargo ratings men vs women

I would like to see the Fargo rating on some of the other top women players, especially those from China and Taiwan. There are several who play in the same range as Siming, often beating her. As good as she is, she is not the dominant player over there. She is just one of many very good players...

It looks like MR and their WNT has created what amounts to an Asian Tour, with a series of events all in the same area. First there was Peri, then Hanoi and now Manila. All have been what I would call mid level events, with only the current Philippine Open needing a boost in prize money (maybe...

The No Names are crushing! So many of these guys were just waiting for a chance to play in a major (big money) event. The big guns in this field will all have their hands full to reach the final eight and then the final four. More will be falling along the way. Welcome to the Philippines!

I just must have watched one of the most inept performances ever in a major tournament. The match (and I'm being generous to call it that) between De Luna and Navarrete was a snoozefest from start to finish, one miss after another and poorly played position shots in between. I hestitate to call...

Ladao wins a very high level match with Grabe 10-8. Dare to say it was a better match than almost anything we saw at the Reyes Cup. Grabe showed his championship pedigree but Ladao never let up, making a picture perfect run out of a tough rack in the final game. Too bad someone had to lose this...

Watching an excellent match between Grabe and Ladao, both players playing well. 7-7 now.

You are beginning to really see the depth of talent in the Philippines. Many good players entered in both events, including those who couldn't come up with their entry fee in Manila. Probably an equal number of very good players who avoid these events in lieu of money games.

That's over 28,500P! Out of the reach for many young hopefuls, with no backer. They are more used to playing races for 10,000-20,000P. Notice the ones who are getting in are showing their strength. Roberto Gomez, Hoang and Billy Thorpe out and Moritz had a scare himself. More shocks to come!

No shows are probably guys who couldn't get a backer to put up their entry fee. I'm guessing it was $100-$200 here (5700P to 11,400P). The equivalent here would be a $500-$1,000 entry fee.

I've been in several Manila area poolrooms over the years and played the room owner. Usually they are fairly good players. On another note I was glad to see the Philippine refs being used. These guys have lots of experience and don't feel the need to follow the shooter around the table and...
