    Great Pool Room Stories

This one is in Pool Wars but if you haven't read it I'll give you the short version. After laying around L.A. getting high and playing little pool for several months I got bored and went on a road trip north to Frisco. I'll skip the stops I made in Bakersfield (played Nate at the Cue Ball which...

    One I found...Danny vs. Grady

Keep going! I finally understand why there are pool tables in most every senior center. It's great exercise for our old bodies, all the bending and stretching. Not to mention how far you walk in a two hour session (over two miles on average!).

Of course, if you buy it on my website. Otherwise you would have to mail it to me to autograph.

    One I found...Danny vs. Grady

Sounds familiar. Last time I played in Vegas in the Bank Pool tourney two years ago (at age 78) I was rated under 600 (like 580). It felt embarrassing to have such a low rating, but it was deserved I'm sure. I did manage to win a couple of matches before that Atencio kid destroyed me. Once upon...

Thoughts ... Russian Kenny is out of prision

I could fill this page with the names of pool.players who did time. As for me, four days in L.A. County taught me a lesson I never forgot! It's no fun being locked up.

Thoughts ... Russian Kenny is out of prision

JRB, the Vegas high roller beat him out of a telephone number in an L.A. area poolroom some years back. I'm talking six figures.

You played pretty good. Neptune Joe was an A speed player!

    Great Pool Room Stories

George Frank and Corner Pockets were one of the sponsors of the Caesars Tahoe Billiard Classic and they had the Corner Pockets logo embossed into the cloth used on the table used for the ESPN matches. Problem was the one ball and the nine ball could get lost when viewed from the overhead camera...

    Great Pool Room Stories

I love all these stories since I knew most of the players mentioned here and have been in many of the poolrooms as well. Don Willis picked his spots carefully and would play in the Ring game before all the top players showed up or were playing matches. Once the big guns started getting in...

Mike, I made no reference to Fargo ratings whatsoever in my post responding to Kris. Maybe you need to address this with him.

One pocket match Allen vs Diliberto

Ronnie's room was called Big Mommas. He was partners with Lenny Moore (aka Marmor), a noted gangster who was the basis for a character in the movie Casino.

One pocket match Allen vs Diliberto

I still have a few copies of the full length match (ten hours on five DVD's) for sale on my website. Nothing left out or censored there.

One pocket match Allen vs Diliberto

I roomed with UJ at a local motel. Weenie Beenie was there too and so were Keith and Harry Platis. Several other well known hustlers (Pete Glenn, Weldon Rogers etc.) showed up too. Everybody was betting on the match, with money passing hands after every game. I loved that atmosphere.

One pocket match Allen vs Diliberto

When Ronnie played it was a "show." He was probably the most popular pool player of that era with Keith being second.

One pocket match Allen vs Diliberto

Ronnie's One Pocket game had fallen a speed by the time this match was played, but he still knew all the moves. In his prime he would have had to spot Danny a ball, maybe 10-8. This match was an intense grudge match for real. It was on Danny's home court and he had all his friends there...

    One I found...Danny vs. Grady

Grady's game was over rated. He was a high level One Pocket player, but not one of the top five guys, maybe top ten. I watched Ronnie give him 9-6, 9-7 and torture him. As you said Grady was a famous pool sucker, going off to all the top hustler/players. Danny meanwhile had tons of heart and...

Bergman will play WNT events in 2026

Jerry Breisath was actually a very good player, but he found he was better suited to teach and coach other players, and became a renowned pool instructor. Mark Wilson was a very good player, competing on a high level. That he didn't win major tournaments (he did win many regional events), is no...
