SJM at 2025 Mosconi Cup: Way too Late Thoughts

The USA players are pretty much outclassed in every aspect of the game. Only Shane and Fedor are up to speed with all the foreign players.

SJM at 2025 Mosconi Cup: Way too Late Thoughts

Good write up as always. I think many of us saw this coming and spoke about on here in advance. I expected a Team USA whipping, but more along the lines of 11-6 or maybe 11-7. A couple more made nine balls might have accomplished this score. Yes, a good coach would help, but we need more than...

Dominguez vs Guama race to 50 for 80+ per side

Oscar has a lot of heart, traveling across the country and betting big on someone else's home court. I wonder if he is betting all his own or has partners.

    Mosconi cup SOLUTION

I was the billiards instructor at UCLA for a short period of time in the 1980's. I taught a class in Pool, Billiards and Snooker (they had all three in the game room). Not really a team per se, but a bunch of kids who loved the game. They actually got one credit for taking the course.

    Bill Maropolis?

He's busy racing around on his hot rod. He takes her everywhere. One time a couple of years ago I took my wife to a remote section of the Southern California mountains. Only little mountain towns up there, and one particular watering hole was mostly for bikers. Who comes cruising but Bill in his...

    Your favourite Earl Strickland quotes

Earl was playing Tang at the World Eight Ball at the Riviera Hotel around 1999 or 2000. Tang was playing great, making everything and getting out from everywhere. I was cheering for Tang since I was both his friend and backer. I was also applauding Earl for his good shots. Finally Tang wins the...

Better coaching had a lot to do with it! Johann knew how to get the best out of his players.

Buddy Hall vs Steve Mizerak, who had the nicer stroke?

Mike did have a super powerful stroke and was a very good player. But his power did not translate as well to winning tournaments as did Steve's. Steve was the dominant American player of the 1970's and 80's until Earl dethroned him. Mike was always a good player and a threat to beat anyone, but...

Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

Thank you Bob. I do remember that U.S. Open 14.1 in Chicago. I was there and did the TV commentary with George Fels on both final matches (Men and Women). I wrote a story about it in Pool Wars. Mizerak was so certain of victory in the finals with Oliver that he made the mistake of arranging...

Buddy Hall vs Steve Mizerak, who had the nicer stroke?

Sw Swanee did look good at the table. Like a 300 pound ballerina.

Buddy Hall vs Steve Mizerak, who had the nicer stroke?

Best looking stroke of all time - Kim Davenport. Louie Roberts second. Most beautiful stroke - Tie, Ed Kelly and Marvin Henderson. Most powerful stroke - Steve Mizerak, who also had a fine soft touch when necessary. Best stroke under pressure - Buddy Hall! He never dogged it except in one...

Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

After a few days of hindsight, I can only add this one sobering thought. I come from a generation of American pool players who ruled the planet. True we were not so aware of the Filipinos yet since they were not traveling to the USA until the 1980's. But there was no doubt in our minds that we...

Mosconi Cup 2025, Dec. 3-6, Alexandra Palace, London

I see two options, neither one which is that good. First of let's be clear about the make up of our team. We have one great player in the twilight of his career. A second player who is a Euro convert? Two more players who are journeyman pros. And a Bank Pool specialist. Kind of a patchwork team...

The mercy killing is over for another year. Team USA can come home and lick their wounds and listen to another year's worth of recriminations. And on here we all get to continue talking about the demise of American pro pool.

Scott said it first, what I was thinking. Tyler could have just rolled the cue ball off the two ball and not sent it three rails around the table. He overthought that shot and made it much harder than it was.
