Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

I think the parents are often times doing their children a disservice. Not the kids' fault at all.

    Short Rack 8 Ball

You aren't clarifying my perception, you're finally explaining yours. I've seen them lose races to players that would fit into my "good" category. Feel free to keep trying, but I don't think you really made any point so I'll go ahead and back out of this back and forth.

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

Excellent job! I have no problem seeing kids play when they're also getting good grades and being good humans. It's the teenaged ones who can barely read or write that do nothing but play pool. I feel bad for them that they were raised that way.

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

At 16-17 I'm sure I wanted to go pro. Dad always put a strong work ethic in me. Spend a lot of time around pool players and saw how NOT glamorous that life looked. Kept working and going to school. I've introduced myself to pros at every tournament I could attend. It's always made me feel...

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

I'm ok with it too, it's not my kid. But for each example you just gave, there are probably 100 failed players wishing they'd done it differently.

Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

I saw a thread on Facebook where Colston Harrelson (great young player) has been matching up with people for $10k sets. Someone commented something about being careful going down this road and make sure he has a backup plan if the pool thing doesn't work out. He took a lot of heat for that...

    Short Rack 8 Ball

I'm not sure what your idea of "good player" is... I consider myself a "good player". I've won tournament matches against a couple of monsters. What is a "top pro" to you? I understand the poker analogy...

    Short Rack 8 Ball

Was that in response to my post? If so, I guess you'd have to define what you meant by "good player" in your post. "Good players" can win tournament races against top players if they break well.

    Reshot Routine

I figure out what shot will make me look the smartest, get comfortable, then say to myself "don't f*ck this one up, di*khead..." YMMV

Yapp’s Controversial Tournament-Winning Shot in the 8-Ball World Championship … Was it a Foul?

FWIW, I've met and played against Aloysius. He's always been nothing short of a gentleman and class act. I'll always give someone (especially someone like Aloysius) the benefit of the doubt in that situation. He was definitely waiting for the ref's call, but I'm confident that he wasn't sure...

    Chicago pool happenings

So I just read all 5 pages of the thread :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Looks like I should check out Chris's if I get a chance! For the locals, what nights do they have leagues/tournament's at Chris's? I probably won't hit a ball (not packing my cue) but wouldn't mind watching something.

    I finally played Ultimate Pool

I would never call a loss of game on someone for handing me a cueball that is scratching. If anything, they are SAVING you time by not having to wait for the ball return. I'll never be disrespectful towards my opponent if they call me on it, but it would kinda bother me.

    I finally played Ultimate Pool

You pulled the ball from the ball return to give to your opponent? How would you lose the game for that? That seems crazy to me and I'd hate it too.

You're totally right. That was one of the first rules I questioned. Their response was that everything they do is designed to speed up the competitions. They want to avoid long, drawn out racks to keep the tournament on schedule and to add excitement for the viewers.

I’ll be spending a few nights near O’Hare airport starting on the 20th. Anything in that part of town worth checking out?

It's not a foul. It's just loss of turn and still an open table. No ball in hand.
