Will snooker help your pool game?

Actually, I think they compliment each other. My snooker game improved a lot when I started playing nine ball, but my nine ball game wouldn't have been as formidable if I hadn't played a lot of snooker to begin with. In short, snooker will improve your nine ball play, and nine ball (and other...

Pool players losing touch with reality (long)

No kidding, and remember what Canada Bill Jones said, "It's immoral to let a sucker keep his money!" I say bust the guy and buy yourself a plasma TV to watch accu-stats videos on.

    Can/should 9-ball be made harder?

I've been playing this game for 20 years. These days I am seeing some trends that are concerning to me: 1) Most good players are making corner balls on a remarkably consistent basis 2) Almost all good players have jump cues with phenolic tips and are extremely proficient with them. They can...

    What are pool's "Majors"?

In golf they have four "major" tournaments that make up their Grand Slam (Masters, US Open, British Open, PGA Champ.). Tennis has the same thing (Aus Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open). Each of these events are major sports attractions that garner the attention of worldwide media...

    To Become Known And Trusted?

I agree with whomever else suggested it. Raise your prices 200%. Sales will go up and so will profit margin. People like to buy cues they think are the bomb. If the high prices seem to make them hesitate, give it to them for 1/2 off and you'll still make out with a 50% price increase. It...

How old is your playing cue????

I've had my current cue, a pretty basic, six-point Schon, since about 1999. I'll never get rid of it. I've gone through a few shafts, though.

Best pool purchase - non cue

My top 5 list: 5) Sledgehammer jump-break - mine is either the first or second one that Goulash made. 4) Too many accu-stats tapes to list 3) Grady's tape, 'Only Kicks' 2) Predator shaft 1) Laser Eye Surgery

    One-Pocket Strategy Question

This is the correct advice. Consider: You have the better position and the lead, and you want to play this shot taking into account both factors. The way you diagrammed it, I don't see a very good shot to get uptable without doing damage to your position, so I think the best shot is to...

1Pocket- Whats the Correct Shot Here?

Taking a foul is okay, as is a soft bank of the ball to your side. The latter leaves a return bank, however. This is a definate trap spot - try not to lose the game if you can, even if it means taking a foul. One thing I can promise, Cliff Joyner would shoot the 5-railer alll day long and...

    Question for snooker players

Depends on the speed you hit it. It doesn't require extra skills, it just requires you to hit the ball differently if you're shooting against the nap. Hopefully one day the entire snooker world will realize that their cloth is inferior and make the change. Ulikely but it sure would be nice.

    Question for snooker players

The old mechanical adding machines had a lot of 'soul' too, but I would still rather use my Dell Inspiron 8600. Progress is progress and the new cloth is far superior to the one-way nap cloth used for snooker. It wears better and the effect of english is consistent in all directions. It's...

I left my Viking cue out in my vehicle...

I'm with Mike on this. I don't think I've EVER brought my cue inside on a cold (or hot) day. I mean I used to, but I got lazy and stopped doing it and the cue never warped or anything so now I don't bother. The only thing I watch for is when you first take it out of it's case a little...

    Question for snooker players

Still a mystery why the English tables continue to use the napped cloth, though. The Simonis style cloth is so much superior. Also, I don't see what kind of an effect nap would have on English billiards that would make it a "must". To OP - pocket openings should be 3 3/8". Do a google...

    Pool in Thailand?

    Now I've seen everything!!!

I've done that more than once. One time I studied the table for a few minutes, trying to figure out what to do when my opponent came over and said, 'Here, would this help you?' and moved the cue ball about four inches to the left. I looked at him in bewilderment until I realized what had...
