    Kielwood supplier

Could anyone please give me a lead for a supplier of Kielwood shaft wood in the USA? I have had an order from Canada stuck for 4 months in a mail strike and I am now right out. I'm located in Australia and mail takes a while to get here anyway but tracking says it hasn't even left yet!

    CNC cutting inlay trouble

I have a 6090 cnc router which I use for profiling and for cutting inlays and pockets. I am having a lot of trouble cutting point inlays, today I broke 6 cutters! I'm cutting .5mm depth (.019") at 75mm(3")/min, so it takes a long time! I am using a .5mm (.019"). The only cutters I can get are...

    CNC Router dust extraction

I have a 6090 router with 4th axis spindle, works great for tapering, but it sure makes a mess. I tried some plastic curtains, and following with a vacuum cleaner, but neither worked very well. Would someone be able to send me some pics of best practice to fix this? Thanks in anticipation!

    Predator Ikon wrapping

I have a customer who wants me to put a leather on an Ikon 4/2 and an Ikon 4/4. My initial reaction was a no, but just wondering if anyone has tackled this? I’m worried the whole cue might fall apart when I cut the wrap groove! Rob Sydney, Australia

    Obi Joint Pin

I have been asked to make a butt for an existing OB shaft, but I cant seem to find anywhere to get a pin. Is it just a 3/8"x10 regular pin, or something exotic? I don't really want to muck around to make one, since I don't have a sample to match. Can anyone point me in the right direction to...

    Three piece cue

My main job involves quite a bit of travel and sometimes it is not practical to take my cue case with me on a plane. I was thinking of making myself a 3 piece cue, so I could just put it in my main suitcase. The joint only has to move forward about 2 inches to fix the problem. I guess the...

    Pin removal with induction heater

I have a cue that came to me today which has a stuck uniloc qr joint, and the owner cut the pin with a hacksaw and sent it to me. Usually I just heat up the pin to change thread, but this is a bit more difficult. I tried drilling then screwed in a screw extractor and heated it up and tried...

    Atlas

I am in Australia and have used Atlas in the past with good results. I just tried a small order of a dozen pins, and shipping was $127! In the past I contacted Eric Hirsh and he sorted it out. I have tried their online (non)customer service form twice and got no reply. Can anyone share an...

    Help gluing point veneers

I wanted to try to add some veneers to my points. I made a press arrangement and glued up the veneer stack using West system epoxy and this worked quite well. Next I cut the mitered edges. But, I am at a loss as to how to hold them in place so I can glue them together. Any guidance would be...

Tip Adhesion issues - BK Rush

I have been working on a BK Rush with a broken vault plate. I made a new plate from Tomahawk and got this affixed with no problem, but the tip is another story. I am trying to glue a genuine BK Rush tip to the vault plate but I cant get it to stick properly. Plate and tip were scuffed, some...

    Recommendations for black cue

I have only made a dozen cues, and I have someone with an unusual request. They want a totally black cue. I have some ebony, but I think that a cored ebony cue might be too heavy. Can I paint a cue black, and will the finish last? Should I try and stain the timber first? Maybe black...

    Mezz Ferrule Repair

I have a shaft come to me with a demolished ferrule, completely smashed. I am planning on replacing it with Tomahawk. There is approximately a 1/8" gap between the end of the cue and the bottom of the cap of the ferrule. Should I do it this way or have the ferrule sit on the end of the cue...

    When to fit the pin?

My first butt is ready for final sanding and I am really happy with it so far. I was thinking I would do the pin next, or is it better to do the finishing and do the pin last? My reasoning was that I might mark the finish doing it first. Am I on the right track here? Rob.

    Few Simple Questions

I am making a cue for myself. I own a CNC workshop, so I am well tooled. I'm good with metal, but this is my first time playing with timber! I'm using a maple core, forearm and handle are cored. Is West System epoxy suitable for gluing it together? I have a 3D printer and was thinking of...
