    Elephant ear wrap

I am having difficulty finding elephant ear wrap. I have a customer that’s looking for one. He gave me this picture (below). I tried to look up that company, but it’s just a Facebook page and very difficult to figure out. can anyone point me in a direction? I’ve never seen them in these colors...

    Rewrap on a Searing cue.

I am doing a re-wrap on a Dennis Searing cue. I have a question on what’s underneath. At first I thought it was masking tape but it is too thin and isn’t sticky. It peeled off easily. It almost felt greasy under the jagged cut paper. It might be wax paper and it is wax not grease?? Any one know...

Solid Black Irish Linen Out of stock

Atlas is out of solid black for a month maybe two. I am having trouble finding someone else that sells it. I'm not looking for a secret source. I can't believe Atlas is the one and only seller. I tried to look at Schmelke, but their web site is still messed up and they are not answering the...

Torrefied Break Shaft.. Will it work?

I am in the process of making my first torrefied shafts in plain and curly. I was asked last night if I could make a break shaft out of it. Is it strong enough to withstand breaking? Thanks, Scott

    Offset taper measurement

When doing a taper with an offset tail stock, what is the proper measurement for the overall length? The center points go a distance into the wood. Is the measurement the actual length of the piece or is it the actual distance between the points of the centers?

    Soft Jaws replacement material

I purchased a set of Soft Jaws from Gary Langley a couple years ago. I was needing a replacement, but sadly I found out Gary has passed away. The one set is a heavier material. I use it less often. It is good for holding the cue securely like a leather strip with grip, but harder to reduce...

Does everything need to be cored?

If weight control is not an issue are there some woods that don't really need to be cored? I am not using a full-length core. I am coring each part: forearm, handle, and butt. I am sure a consistent core density will affect the hit so that would also be a factor. The cue I am working on right...

    Offset points or butterfly fix

Not sure how I got these so far off. Is there a calculation to move the center or is it just by eye and feel? They were dead even prior to tapering. After my first pass I saw they were getting off, so I adjusted the center on the butt end. Maybe I went the wrong way. I'm not sure. I've done...

    DIY wood kiln

I decided to build a wood “kiln” to help reach and maintain my blank’s condition. Not sure if anyone else does this. In my search, I mostly found information from bowl turners. Most of what I found simply used a heat lamp with a hole at the bottom and top. I thought about using a gun safe...

Building up the wrap groove with veneer

I’ve searched as much as I could. I’ve seen the veneer method mentioned multiple times but no details. Am I on the right track? This it where I am. McDermott cue with a nasty wrap. Got it off and cleaned up. The groove is around 70 thou. deep. I need to build it up for a linen wrap. I had some...

    No Finish Butt Cap Material

I have a Buddy Hall, Meucci in to repair a broken butt cap. Ironically for a Meucci the entire cue does not have a clear coat finish. I normally use phenolic, but this needs to be made out of a smooth black material that can be simply polished as is, with no finish. I have used white Tomahawk...

    Extension bumper security

I just made my first extension. Took it out for a test run last night and had an issue. Put it on and off a couple of times and then the bumper unscrewed out of the cue instead of the extension out of the bumper. The friction of the rubber is gripping more than the bumper threads in the wood of...

    Wood Identification?

I tried in the Main forum first. Maybe here will work better. :) I am working on a conversion cue. It is a Brunswick butterfly from I think the 1930s. I am trying to identify the reddish brown wood with large pores that makes up the bulk of the cue. It is a very light wood and has a really...

    Wood Identification?

I am working on a conversion cue. It is a Brunswick butterfly from I think the 1930s. I am trying to identify the reddish brown wood that makes up the bulk of the cue. It is a very light wood and has a really nice chatoyance with the new finish.

Metric Router Bits with 1/4 inch Shank

I do not have CNC. I was wanting to use the router and indexed headstock to make holes for abalone inlay dots. The router takes 1/4 inch shank bits but the inlay dots come in millimeters. I have not been able to find bits with a 1/4 inch shank that can make a metric hole.

    Meucci Wrap Question

Is this just a wrap? All of the Meucci cues I have seen so far have whatever wrap they have under the finish. I don't understand that at all, but that is a different issue. A gentleman showed me his cue that he said he bought when he was 12 which my guess would put it around late 80's. Hall of...

    Rotary tool in tool post

I use a Mid America lathe and do not have CNC. I would like to be able to drill holes and cut channels using the lathes indexing. Seams overkill and a pain to use the big router. I would like to use a smaller router or maybe a dremel mounted in the tool post. I am pretty sure I have seen this...

    Veneer color bleed

Joint protectors can be a good way to experiment with different things before trying it out in an actual cue. Mistakes are much cheaper. A customer wanted joint protectors to go with his Ebony/Cocobolo Ariel Carmeli cue. I decided to try to add matching veneers. Haven’t worked with them yet...

    Purple Cocobolo

This is my first experience with Cocobolo. I have had a piece for a while and now I have a project for it. It looked like this. (Sorry this is the only before picture I could find). After turning it down to round it looks completely different. Will it stay this way or will go back to brown...

    Another cue ID

Got a friend who wants to see if this can be identified. Possibly a North Florida builder but not sure.
