ISO: Early 90s Schon yellow micarta ferrule

Hi all, I know that this is a very long shot but I'm starting to run out of options. I have an early 90s Schon that I've played with for 30+ years that still has it's original micarta ferrules on both shafts, unfortunately, the unthinkable happened recently and one of the ferrules chipped...

Where to play near Port Stanley?

Hi all, I'm heading to Ontario for 10 days near the end of the month for some much needed beach time and would love to find a place near Port Stanley to hit some balls. My preferences are snooker or 9' tables but I'm open to bar boxes as a last ditch option. Anyone know of some places with...

    Forfeits at the USBTC

I was just checking the draw sheets and noticed a really large number of forfeits, even in the later stages of the brackets. Anyone know what the deal is? Are there not set match times? Seems very strange to me considering the caliber of players that are doing it....Stan T, Amar K, etc.

    WTB Predator 5k3 or higher

Hi all, A friend has asked me to help with his search for a gently used Predator model 5k3 or higher. He's looking for one predator 314/2 shaft and 18 1/2 to 20 ounces, cue must roll straight together and apart and be in very good condition. We are located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada if...

Forfeits at the US Open one pocket?

I was just looking through the draw to check up on some friends that are playing and noticed that there seems to be an unusually large number of forfeits. Anyone know why? It seems like a pretty big event for people to be no-showing so I'm surprised.

    Pool related ebooks?

Hi all, I just got my hands on an E-reader and was wondering if anyone around here happens to know of any decent pool-related books available in eformat? Thanks, Todd

Stacked leather vs leather vs linen

Hi all, Thought this would be a great place to ask this question. I'm thinking of changing my wrap to either conventional leather or stacked leather from irish linen and I'm curious what the physical changes will be to the butt(mostly weight). And if I choose to swap to either of the leathers...

What is the best 8 ball advice you've ever gotten?

As league season fires up yet again, it got me to thinking about some of the stuff I've learned over the years playing. I think the best advice I've ever gotten was "If there is no reason to bump into balls, stay away from them." Seems like pretty simple advice but I can't count how many...

Alternatives to the phenolic break tip?

I currently play with a Sledgehammer and have heard that the BCA has outlawed the use of the phenolic tips so I figured I'd come here and ask the experts for suggestions about what I can replace it with. I saw a Diviney with what looked to be a phenolic of some sort but was told that it...

    Your opinion on Magic Racks?

Since using the Magic Rack I have used nothing but and absolutely LOVE getting a perfect rack every time, sure there are very rare instances where a ball may rest on it but I'll gladly take that chance instead of getting a slug rack. I was watching the U.S. Open 10 ball and it got me to...

Best way to clean shaft blueing?

Hi all, I figured I'd come here and ask the experts instead of fumbling through a bunch of stuff on my own. What is the best way to remove or reduce shaft blueing without the use of a lathe? I've got an old Schon that has seen considerable use and both shafts show their age with a bit of...

    The Celtic Prince photos?

I've read about this cue many times but never had an opportunity to see any photos of it. Anyone have some pics or a link to some pics? I'm just curious to see what kind of workmanship goes into a 100k+ cue. Thanks.

Why is snakewood not used more?

I've really grown to love the look of snakewood and I wonder why it's not used more often in cues so I thought I'd ask the cuemakers for a reason. Is it tough to work with? Cost prohibitive? Not in demand as much as ebony? Too hard to find?

Looking for some info about the age/value of my schon please.

I've personally been playing with this cue since ~1992 or so and have never seen another one like it. Anyone have an idea of when this model was made and what it's model number might be? Or what it may be worth? It's an ebony forearm with no points and 4 ivory diamonds in the butt with silver...

How do you line up your ash snooker cue?

Looking at some recent posts got me to thinking about the grain of ash snooker cues. How do you line yours up when you shoot? Do you have the arrows on the top in your line of sight or the straight grain lines? I personally can't standing seeing the arrows when I shoot and the bevel in the...

What's your local pool scene like?

Just thought I'd start this thread to see what everyone else thinks of their local pool scene. I started playing semi-seriously in the late 80's here in Edmonton and discovered what I consider to be a near-perfect room named Century Billiards. The place was primarily a snooker hall but had 9...
