    Collar Replacement

I have a Pool Cue that had a bad collar. It cracked and came off. I want to replace it. There are brass collars on bthe internet. Do these collars have to be machined to fit your cue ? I want to replace my collar with a brass or steel collar. I'm thinking of brass, is one better than...

    Calling the 9-ball question

Call 9 ball I've played in tournaments where the 9 ball has to be called. In a small local tournament this can be a good rule. If you have low level players, it prevents them from just slopping in the 9 ball, it prevent players from banging a cluster just to see something go. In the pro's...

Pool's "image" has nothing to do with it's lack of popularity - Science

Age Limits I don't know the exact law, but I believe if you are underage, you must be accompanied by an adult in New York. In NY typically pool halls are serving alcoholic beverages, that's where most of the money is. Because teenagers can't go into a pool hall unaccompanied, no teenage...

Who is the best instructor in the US?

Listing of Instructors I don't think any instructor would be "best", it depends on what your game is like, are you a beginner, or intermediate, or advanced, where you are, how much you can pay, etc. What I would like to see is a listing of instructors by area. There are people that give...

    Easy Fractions

Mark on the Cue I have a mark on my cue. At that Mark if I spread my hand out, between the pocket line, and the shooting line. If the distance is 1 hand, I have a 1/2 ball shot. If it's half of my hand width it's a 3/4 ball shot.

    14.1 and Murphy's Law

Murphy's Law "Babe" Cranfield said that there was luck involved. There where some shots where you wouldn't know what was going to happen, especially on the break, some ball could hit the cue for a scratch. Note: Babe Cranfield has a 495 ball run in straight pool.

    Tournament Records?

Snooker is played for points In Snooker, they are playing for points, the reds are 1 point, and the colored have different points. You always shoot a red and then a colored, after all the reds are sunk("potted"), then you "pot" the colors, (i believe in point order.) The colors get spotted...

    American 14.1 Straight Pool 2018

There was a 14.1 Tournament at Steinway Billiards, in October, is that one being held or is this replacing it ? I've seen that one for the last 2 years.

High Run Equivalency between a 9' and 10' table?

Cranfield's 495 run was a exhibition in front of a crowd. That's my understanding. He said the crowd was responding to his exhibition, so he just kept on going. I believe it was on a 4 1/2 X 9 Table.

High Run Equivalency between a 9' and 10' table?

Cranfield Runs When I was in college I had seen Cranfield run out against a challenger. This is what I remember his style was: He would slam very hard into the rack, if any balls wound up way at the top of the table, he would use a shot to a side pocket, for position uptable, and he would...

    Slate and Other Materials

Slate Lakeside is quoting $695. I believe that before delivery costs.

    Slate and Other Materials

Slate If the price of Slate wholesale for a 9 ft table is $200, then you're right. The last time I checked, if you bought slate, for 1 9ft. table at retail, it could run $1000.

    Slate and Other Materials

Concrete ??? I was thinking that concrete may work. Slate was being used on pool tables before concrete was common. The early concrete I don't think would work. In the 1980's they came up with additives to change concrete's characteristics. (plasticizers). Now kitchen counter-tops are being...

    Slate and Other Materials

I saw from another post, that stated some pool table manufactures are using materials other than slate for the bed. I've seen tables that use composite MDF type materials for home use, and they generally don't last too long. But the post stated that they were using artificial slate, (he refer...

I need help with position play.

Position play Try this drill. Put 3 balls on the table, start with ball in hand, and run them out. If you can do 3 go to 4, then 5. The better players typically look for trouble spots, and the look about 3 balls ahead,

Anyone have a comment on ray martins new dvd??

Ray Martin's DVD Ray Martin just covered beginner's stuff. I was hoping for him or someone else, to demonstrate the shots in his excellent book "The 99 critical shots in pool". If he would have covered this then it would have been excellent, but that did not happen. There are plenty of...

    Heavy cue

Weight of Cue I've found that a heavier cue smooths things out. I want to practice with a lighter cue, then switch to a heavier cue for competitive games. With a lighter cue I can see more of my mistakes.

How many folks carry more than 1 shaft?

I used multiple shafts. I have 1 butt, but I have 3 shafts. The shafts have different tip width's, and hard and soft tips. I find that a narrow tip lets me put on more spin. I've tried a hard tip, and medium tips. I want to try a soft tip on a narrow shaft next. Bobu5678
