I mean the clear coat. If I understand correctly, if the there’s a chip in the butt, the clear coat must be sanded off down to the wood and reapplied. I would be worried about the paint getting damaged if that happened.

I’m considering purchasing the cue pictured below. The description says the handle is black painted maple. If the cue was ever damaged and had to be recoated, would the handle have to be repainted?

Is there more work involved or cost in making a wrapless cue compared to one with a wrap. I noticed a few production cues that had wrap/wrapless options and the wrapless one was more.
