Out of curiosity, why don’t you just use longer dowels for your blanks if you want the points up higher? I suppose it might be the amount of time if you are doing a long tenon for rings.

To be fair, I don’t know anyone under 50 that could afford a $2k cue (including me). Same for golf, I don’t see younger people with new, expensive equipment. Houses and medical care were a lot cheaper 40 years ago.

At least from the stream (and the commentary here), Filler looks like he has reached another level. I think he was tinkering with his stroke last year and maybe that paid off? In addition to everything else he does and has of course.

Did you make that tailstock yourself? I haven’t seen one of those adapted for the cue smith. (Not to derail your thread, looks like a nice setup)

For that blank ($300+ probably) you should ship it to a reputable cue maker. You will want a nice finish to bring out the wood grain and color, which a hack would botch. The resale value of the cue will also be decent with that blank if it is professionally done, versus zero if it’s done poorly.

I’m hopeful that this will be the start of rotating the us open around the country each year, which i think would be good for the event and the sport. Whether it makes business sense i of course don’t know. But I can drive (8 hours) to Plano and stay at any number of clean, inexpensive...
