Mosconi Cup: Nine-Ball, Big Pockets, Short Races

The Mosconi Cup is a made for TV event. The short races are to accommodate that. The pocket size is not so important because the table has new cloth. This means that the table will play easy in spite of the pocket size, due to the slickness of the new cloth. As for alternating breaks, that is...

    US Open TV Table

The TV table is a Diamond Paragon. The pockets are the same as the other tables. All the tables have Pro Cut Pockets (4 1/2".) All of the tables were new for the event. They all have Simonis 860 HR cloth. When the cloth is new, the tables play soft for the first few days of the tournament...

The Derby City Classic One Pocket Event

You are correct Lou. One Pocket always starts around 1:00pm on Sunday. Last year our entries were way up. If that trend continues we will have to adjust the tournament schedule or cutoff the entries. The finishing time is influenced by the number of entrants and the number of tables to execute...

    Multiple-Event Winners at the DCC

SVB almost won all three events at one Derby. He was 2nd in the bank pool, 1st in One Pocket, and 1st in 9 Ball.Until last year, no one had completed a career grand slam at the Derby until Alex won the one pocket in 2015.

Comments Please - Users of Diamond's New Light

Actually, we did not "just slap a number" on there. On a 9' table the light should be 48" from the playing surface (approximately 78" from the floor.) On a 7' table it should be 40 to 42" from the playing surface. The Diamond light has a parabolic mirror diffuser. The height spec is to get the...

    Dead rails questions

Cushions play "dead" when the nose becomes hardened or the cushion becomes detached from the subrail. The cushion is made from a combination of natural gum rubber, synthetic rubber, and stabilizing chemicals. Over time, the cushion can harden which makes it lose its rebound speed. You can...

    vendors

Dave Jacoby always has a booth at the Derby. There usually a few vendors that buy and resell collectible cues there as well. If you want to compare a lot of different sticks, then The Super Billiard Expo will be a better choice.

Blue felt ? Where , how and why its taking over....

Greg Sullivan paid a company for a study to determine what color provides the best background contrast to see pool balls against. The result was Tournament Blue. This had nothing to do with TV or anything, except improving the playing conditions on the surface of the table. As a side note, it...

    Only pool tournament players............

Joey I agree with your proposed racking changes. I agree that the break must be from a defined box, 9 ball on the spot, 3 balls above the side pocket, and a template is needed. We, at Diamond, are contemplating changes to racking the 9 Ball portion of the upcoming Derby City Classic. Nothing is...

The "Cardiac Kid" Lyn Wechsler tops a strong field of 64 in Erie PA.

Congrats Buddy! I am happy to see you win yet another tournament. Now I guess the Crush won't be a big enough spot for me to get the cheese. Lol.

Sky beat SVB in the finals at Smokin Aces. SVB did not play in the One Pocket event there because he was playing in the World Cup of Pool in England.

    Dymondwood factory fire: Thoughts?

Dymondwood is thin layers of birch glued together. It is injected with dye and impregnated with phenolic resin. The laminate for gunstocks is the same except it is not impregnated with phenolic. Diamond Billiards uses 5/8" thick pieces for the rails. The fire was a total loss. Rutland is not...

    cyclop balls???

Cyclop balls do not work with Valley tables. All coin operated pool tables (except a Diamond Smart Table) need a cueball with metal in them to separate the cue ball with a magnet. Cyclop balls are phenolic, without any metal.

    Men vs. women

I have watched dozens of tournaments of both the women and the men. The top women players such as Ga Young Kim, Karen Corr, Allison Fisher, Kelly Fisher play at a very similar level to the men after the break in 9 Ball. I think it might be interesting to watch men and women compete in something...

    Simonis 760 vs. 860 & bumpers questions...

I work for Diamond Billiards. I have tested Simonis 860 and 760. The difference is the thickness of the cloth and in the ratio of wool to nylon. 860 is 90/10 and 760 is 70/30. 760 cloth is 30% faster than 860 (by measurement) the additional nylon is to improve wear because 760 cloth is very...

    Buy back option

DCC Buyback Option The original intention of the buy back option was to get amateur players to participate in the DCC. Amateurs could enter a tournament for a low entry fee. This would tend to increase the number of players in the tournament. One year at the Derby we had 476 players in the Bank...
