The 2016 DCC ran from Friday, Jan. 22 through Saturday, Jan. 30. The One-Pocket event started on Sunday Jan. 24 and ended late on Thursday, Jan. 28 (actually it was about 2:15 am the next morning).

The 2017 DCC is scheduled from Friday, Jan 20 through Saturday, Jan. 28. So if the events are scheduled the same way as in 2016, One-Pocket will start on Sunday, January 22.

DCC 1pocket always starts a little past 1pm on Sunday, the third day of the tournament. I think the player's meeting (just a quick going over of the rules) is usually noon.

You are correct Lou. One Pocket always starts around 1:00pm on Sunday. Last year our entries were way up. If that trend continues we will have to adjust the tournament schedule or cutoff the entries. The finishing time is influenced by the number of entrants and the number of tables to execute the tournament. Since the Derby has been at the Horseshoe the number of entries in each division has remained relatively constant until the last event. There are a lot of variables in this, ie special events (Straight Pool Challenge, people matching up, etc. We always tend to try and complete each tournament on time and still accommodate the special events as well. Unfortunately we do not have space to put in any additional tables. That means that there is an upper limit to the number of players that we can have in each event and still finish after 9 days without killing the players. One thing that has helped is the average time per match has gotten shorter over the years. This is especially noticeable in the Bank Pool. If anybody has Derby related questions, feel free to PM me. I have a very heavy travel schedule but I will try to answer any questions as quickly as I am able to.

Hey, Paul, you guys do a pretty good job of handling the giant squirming squid that is the DCC.

But I have long thought -- particularly with the advent of all the special events that have been added to the DCC , like the Big Foot and 14.1 Challenge -- that sooner or later you would need to start capping the entries. I think it is a good thought.

In any case, I look forward to seeing you in 2017 and saying, "Hey!"
