    New JB case

Nice! Enjoy it. The white trim really pops. FYI - you can jury rig it into a backpack case by attaching another strap to the existing hooks. I did that with my early-model JB Rugged before they offered the backpack option.

    major slump

Agreed. Here's what I do to figure out what's wrong: Set up a simple shot and mark the starting cue ball and object ball positions, and precisely where you want the cue ball to end up. I use donut holes for the cue ball and object ball positions and a business card for the position target...

    Rack manipulation - a question.

Rack your own or not? If it's not, the opponent should be able to check the rack and stop any funny business. If it's rack your own, then I don't see the harm. Supposedly the numbers wear down slightly more slowly than the rest of the ball, so if you have worn balls, aligning the numbers...

Just arrived - New JB Case

I know they're pretty backed up, and they just lost one of their employees. However you might want to drop a line to check in. As long as you're not harassing them it should be fine.

Just arrived - New JB Case

It took about 6 weeks to finalize the design post-SBE. Then there were practical limits to what their embroidery machine could do, so that also delayed the final product. Whenever I order a custom cue or case, I translate estimates into "cuemaker time" (i.e., double the estimate). Karen's...

Just arrived - New JB Case

Since you asked, my preferred bank is this one. The ball shortens up off the rail and you've got that nice big side pocket to work with. It's a dead cinch.

Just arrived - New JB Case

If you can't trust pool players on the internet, then gosh darn it, who can you trust?

Just arrived - New JB Case

TSW is a reference to the best hitter of all time: Theodore Samuel Williams. GB is my real-life initials: Geoff Bauer. That's all.

Just arrived - New JB Case

Oops. Nice catch. Maybe it's some complicated gravitational lensing effect... no, I got nothing. It's a mistake. Call it a stylized moon if you like :)

Just arrived - New JB Case

Thanks! Yeah, Amazon has me spoiled too. I can't tell you how many times I checked the UPS tracking number for this case... :)

Just arrived - New JB Case

This is a 3x6 butterfly with a fully custom design. I call it "Starfall." I ordered this at the SBE this year - much thanks to Karen for taking my pencil sketches and translating them to a unique and beautiful work of art. It's so helpful to talk these things through in person. There is no one...

Chris Melling's 4 rail bank shot

That was the best runout I've ever seen. Three highlight-reel shots in the same rack. Melling had to have the imagination to see the shots, and the wisdom to determine that they were the best option, for him, at the time. Then he had to execute them. All this in a pro tournament, with a shot...

    How good were you?

My first tournament was a D-class only event. I went two and out, losing 5-1, 5-0. Gotta start somewhere. It was a strong motivator to get better, that's for sure.

    Pool pain?

I have the exact same issue. I'm experimenting with small changes to my stance to try to isolate and fix the cause. My working theory is that I'm putting too much weight on the bridge hand, which ends up creating pressure on the left shoulder.

    Run This (69)

Working backwards, I like the 2 or 9 as a break ball and the 13 or 15 as a key ball. Maybe the 4 or 10 as a K2 ball. For me, I don't love the 11 as a key ball because there's no simple way to get on it. I'd be worried about getting a bad angle on the 11 and then having to power the cue ball to...

    Cue pawn - opinions wanted

You might want to partner with an existing pawn shop and be their online pool cue expert in exchange for a cut of the profits. That way the licensing and bonding are covered, and you have an expert to help you set pricing. Your role would be limited to sourcing cues, selling cues, and accurate...

Need advice on a new cue

First, figure out what you want. Here's what I would do. Go up to every single player you know and ask to try their cue. Most will let you do so. Take note of what you like. You'll soon find that you have preferences for weight, taper, balance point, joint, wrap, etc. Then go out and buy YOUR cue.
