"chop that dead wood" meaning, when you're too lazy to attempt a run out, let your opponent chop away until he leaves you the last 3 or 4...

sadly, I used my 80's good interactions with Meucci as a baseline and didn't assume that they would have fallen to this level. I like your advice about how I should have sent it elsewhere or bought off eBay - good stuff ;) why didnt I think of that. I've never had an issue with any of these...
