    a different elbow drop question

I noticed that some pros drop there elbow in line with the shot. While some pro's elbow, like earl's, fly out to the side. Maybe there is no easy answer to this, but my question is this. What causes the difference?

    stroke drill

I have been trying a stroke drill where you place the cue ball and object ball two diamonds from the top rail and bottom rail diagonally.(mighty x) You then shoot the shot into the corner and try to make the object ball, and follow the ball in with the cue ball.(scratch) My question is, do you...

maybe just folklore I guess. Don't know where I heard that. Probably someone exaggerating and spoke out of turn. I think I did the same. My apologies.

speculation, but it is very possible. Furthermore, I believe what arctic said applies here. Children are taught to play in school in the philippines. How large do you think their 9b playing population is(every last one of them). Plus not exactly tiny at 100,000,000 but comparatively speaking...

Yes, i think you are right arctic. That would be more appropriate, but I couldn't guess the answer because I personally have no clue. If research has been done, could you give me the numbers of 9 ball players in Europe compared to the USA.

I agree it is a successful event that I personally enjoy. Furthermore, I'm not proposing that any changes be made. I was just pointing out what I thought was a little unfair advantage. But, hey if it was our idea in the first place, let it ride then.

I think your referring to specific programs rather then the general. I can partially agree. Where I'm from, there is a 2A school that can compete with the 5A schools. It has a well known program and the best players flock to this school because of that. It is an exception rather than the...

Not sure I understand your first point, but I'm willing to read if you could elaborate a little more. As for the second more pertinent question, well thats easy. In General, spectators of this era would prefer to watch 9B over straight pool. Basically, the game is nine ball to generate more...

So 5A football team has no advantage over 3A football team. Just more than double the school size.

With that kind of record, and the circumstances previously mentioned, makes you wonder why people consider the level of American play to be subpar compared to the rest of the world.

Does anyone know why the United States (1 country pop. 300,000,000) matches up with the entire CONTINENT of Europe, which consists of 50 countries and 750,000,000 people? Doesn't seem like an even playing field to me.

    fundamentals

So then you are saying that pros today are indeed better than those guys. I mean if one guy has a 300 ball run on loosey goosey equipment with loosey goosey fundamentals he would certainly be beaten by a modern day pro that can do the same on a really tight diamond. Essentially one of those old...

    fundamentals

I'm not saying that players are better now. I have been watching some videos of ralph greenleaf, mosconi, willie hoppe, etc. There fundamentals in my opinion are very different from the typical modern player. The same goes for most of the players of that era that I have seen on tape. From...

    fundamentals

Has the definition of proper fundamentals changed in the last 75 years. If so, is it reasonable to expect that if the new fundamentals are superior to the old ones, that the modern generation of players has surpassed the previous in skill?

    chicken wing

Dale, I just got off the phone with Willie and Ralph and they both informed me that they used what is more popularly known as a piston type stroke in which they drop the elbow.

    chicken wing

keep in mind, I'm not saying that you can't hit the cue ball in a straight line. I'm just saying that if you slowly went through the full range of motion with a laser beam coming out of the tip, you would witness lateral movement. I THINK

    chicken wing

My theory is that you can't stroke straight using the method that I described. I think that with enough practice you just learn how to hit balls straight with a crooked stroke. In other words you learn timing. Just a theory. All opinions are welcome.

    chicken wing

Maybe this is a stupid question, but here goes anyway. If your elbow and shoulder are not in perfect plane with the cue(a little chicken wing) and you execute a pendulum type stroke(movement from elbow down only) is it physically possible to move the cue in a straight line? I think not but I'm...

    grip

I'm not at all worried about how it looks. I just believe that the best way to deliver a straight stroke is to put your body in the easiest configuration to do so biomechanically. Thus I have been trying to make changes. Maybe I'm wrong. I dont know, I'm just a banger trying to improve.
