Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

Agreed. I said there's nothing wrong with it; what he's doing is not illegal or immoral. I wouldn't spend $100 to rack for him, but I'm not criticizing folks that would. To each their own.

Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

Well, I guess it could be called "marketing" of some sort. I'm not sure if it's "good" marketing. He wrote he's looking to practice. To me, it's kind of pompous to ask his fans to pay a "minimum" of $100 to help him "practice". I know some have said $100 is a bargain compared to playing a...

It's OK, that cloth needed cleaning anyway. Please clean thoroughly and send new pic when complete.

I believe the correct term is "nut hugger". I don't know who coined that phrase, but I laugh every time I hear it. :)

Pallet of new cues for sale at 20 cues per box for $100 ($5/cue) --- Comments?

It's mind boggling how cheap you can buy Chinese items. Look at this scale for $7. Shipped from China, packaged, marketed, and then sold for a profit...for less than $7. How is that even possible? I'd bet those cues are badly warped. And if they were not warped now, they'll be warped...

Was pool better 50 years ago?

You're right, similarly, the best part of pool for me was seeing my improvement, not using an upward comparison to those still better (that's just frustrating and depressing). I believe I started hanging out in the pool room at 14 or so. Like most young, dedicated players, I was improving in...

We called it "Pill Pool". Even if it was played for serious money, everyone was always laughing in that game.

Sorry, I don't know. I didn't even know this book existed.

You're all suckers, but never mind that. Look what I got from a buddy in the Philippines. Manalo said “Proceeds from the sale of the book and other merchandise sold at the Pacman Cue Club will go to a fund for senior and current pool players”.

Was pool better 50 years ago?

Same. I fast forward to the end to see if it's close. If it's close, I'll reverse to the last few games and watch those. If the game is lopsided, I won't even do that.

Best way to thin out collection cues and books... List separate, or bundle in one sell list?

Selling items separate is slow and painful. You also have to be on your toes to avoid all the scumbag scammers out there. If you use a medium like eBay for the exposure, the fees kill ya. In my opinion, if you don't mind selling at a bargain, bundling is fast, easy, and the way to go. Plus...

Was pool better 50 years ago?

Watching pool and going to pool halls was absolutely more fun and entertaining in the 70s and 80s. The quality of play cannot be compared though. Today's top players would slaughter yesteryears players. In my head, yesteryears players were like pool gods. Watching the old recordings of them...

    "Distasteful" is a good description.

Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

The problem with most pool halls now is they're boring. The pool hall I grew up playing in had 25-30 regulars there all the time (good dudes!) trying to hash out games with one another. It wasn't easy, but we all ended up in action after some negotiating. Sometimes you got a game you liked...

Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

A few other said this and I agree it's true. When a top pro is free stroking without any pressure of losing, they could just play at a crazy speed. A 600-650 player is turned into a helpless rack boy. I'm not sure who could find that experience enjoyable.

Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

Personally, I don't like the way he worded his offer. He's one of the top two or three players in the world, if he truly wants "action" and not donations, offer up some weight. I'd like to see Filler show up to take him up on his offer and then we'd see how sincerely he was really looking for...

Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

I think it could depend. Back in the 80s I gambled with Ray Martin even in one pocket. I knew who he was but thought he was an old man and couldn't play anymore. Turns out he wasn't that old and could still play just fine. I lost every rack but we had good battles and long games. He played...

Fedor Gorst - looking for action in Louisville, KY tomorrow. If you could - would you?

I agree. He's not really "looking for action". He's looking for donations while he practices. I'd respect him more if he posted something like "if I don't know you, I'll give up the 7 and 8 in 9 ball or 10-6 in one pocket". Then, at least a decent shortstop would have a fighting chance. He'd...

    Turning Stone

Wow, 2007. I can't believe it was that long ago; I was there watching and it seemed like 7 or 8 years ago. Never mind that young comment I made, I thought he was mid 20s. Still a good dude though.
