Built a simple Straight Pool scorekeeper — looking for feedback from 14.1 players

I downloaded the app. It seems very intuitive. At first glance it seems very polished. I simulated a match under guest and deleted it so I can start fresh. The start up screen still cuts off but not a deal breaker.

    Good Books to Learn From

You don't want to know LOL. I am not "advising" anyone. My opinion on these mental side books is just my opinion. I play good players sometimes approaching 700 Fargo. If I lose it is not because I got the yips. It is because they are good or I missed shots. And I don't worry about a hobby...

    Good Books to Learn From

I have "The Inner Game of Tennis", "A Mind for Pool", "The Pleasures of Small Motions" "I Came to Win" by the Monk and others. I never got a lot out of any of them. Psychobabble. The best way to focus is to gamble at slightly above whatever your comfort level is or play tournaments against good...

    Half Court Pool

Very true. Black, pink and blue for the most part between reds.

    Half Court Pool

I have a 5x10 snooker table, which I enjoy very much. I like for the most part big table games, but have played league 8 ball on bar boxes for years. In the past I had a bar box that my wife once discovered had replaced the dining room table without her knowledge or buy in. Bad idea. The best of...

    Ever do this?

When I play down in my basement I generally play with a Dufferin off the wall. They hit fine. I do have a favorite that is 60 inches and has a 12mm tip. As I am hitting 2 1/8 inch snooker balls. I would have no problem grabbing a house cue off the wall as long as the tip was adequate.. But...

BUTTERFLY EFFECT CHALLENGE - fullsplice cue for donation

I got my cue from Anton today. It took 12 days. I may be ordering another. Beautiful. I wish they had one with a sunflower....dipped in orc's blood.

    I'm losing faith in UPS

Tracking my butterfly effect cue from Anton in Ukraine. It apparently has made it to America. Curious to see who delivers it the last mile....Hopefully it arrives unscathed.

    Had Enough?

I quit my league team 2 weeks ago. They probably hate me. Depression. Taking the summer off. It seems like I get down a hole sometimes. The last time I stepped away for 15 years. I no longer have time for that. Life is too short. Gonna try to pick up the pieces. Or find a new hobby. Good luck...

    Murrey table?

I remember Showcase Billiards in Westminster CO used to have a Murrey supposedly used in TCOM on their floor for people to try out cues. They had some crazy price on it like $20K, meaning it was not for sale. I tried a jumper on it with their blessing. Had to buy the jumper of course.

How to get others interested in more than just 8-ball and 9-ball?

I have a 5x10 snooker table at home. On it I play anything but 8 or 9 ball. Snooker/Banks/1P or a carom game like Cowboy or Bottle Pool. Or Fargo. My bar league friends are not interested in the slightest in games like these!. So its just me and sometimes my son. At the senior center it is...

    Banking with the beard?

I bought this book after speaking with Freddy on the phone. He was gracious enough to autograph it to me. Same with Grady's book. Signed with his business card. They are classics. Personally, my favorite books for banking though are the billiard atlas series books.

BCA or APA for League Play

I played APA for years. It was fun but the time commitment was too much and we always had SL problems getting ranked up. Watching 2 SL3 battle it out for 45 minutes in a race to 2 drives me crazy. Especially if they don't have an interest in learning. In BCA we can finish in an hour in a half...

Tight pockets are NOT good for the game!

jtompilot, that pretty much describes me. I play at home on my 5x10 snooker table with difficult pockets. It is not going to make me better for league, but at my age, over 60, past my peak, the game is all about my personal enjoyment. It is fun. I don't have the time, desire or stamina to...

    Schmelke information

I still have a Schmelke. It was my first serious cue I bought with my own money. I moved on from it after a year or two but I still own it and take it out once in a while. I even got a second shaft for it at some point. Paid $275 for it new which in the 90's was a lot of money for me. I can...

Are there any books about the "Life" in a pool room or about one of the great "Action" pool Rooms?

Cornbread Red's book had a lot of stories about the Detroit scene back in the day. Grady's book was also fun to read. I could take or leave Rags to Rifleman. The best books IMHO are those written by actual writers. Playing Off the Rail by McCumber and McGoorty by Robert Byrne. I also liked...

Finally found a copy of Rags to Rifleman

As do I. It is an ok book. Agree about the small type. It has been on my shelf for 20 years after buying a copy at Showcase. I think my favorite story books are Grady's book and Playing off the Rail.
