    Bo Belinsky,,,a Hustler?

There's a chapter in the book "Bo - Pitching and Wooing" about his pool hustling exploits while growing up and on the road with Norm "Farmer" Webber. Freddy Guarino introduced him to me around 1990 at his Las Vegas poolroom. A very interesting person with lots of old stories and still played...

    Cathead "steve shaw"

Steve "Stevie Wonder" Shaw. I thought he was originally from Albuquerque New Mexico. I ran across him in Albuquerque early 1980 at the pool hall that Jimmy Moore hung out at. The next time I saw him he was hanging out around Sacramento several years later. We hung out together for awhile...

How can I increase the weight of shaft?

Thanks to all who responded, it's appreciated. I've tried using lead tape at various points on the shaft and unfortunately for me the cue feels best (balance) with the lead tape affixed at the balance point of the shaft. However, It's cumbersome on those long stretch shots. I wanted to uniformly...

How can I increase the weight of shaft?

Is there a substance you can wipe on a shaft to increase it's weight somewhat? Preferably a substance that's also beneficial to the wood and wouldn't discolor it too much and won't affect the way it feels after drying. I'd like to add about 1/5 oz. if possible.

    Cue Balance Point Misconception ???

A few thoughts regarding the balance point of a cue. A player who holds their cue at or near the butt sleeve may enjoy playing with a wide range of BP's, whereas the player who holds their cue near the BP may have difficulty finding a comfortably balanced cue to play with. Also, in experimenting...

Is the shaft made of maple? It appears to be made of a different wood.

    Southwest shaft question?

Quite a bit, but there may be exceptions here and there. I had three brand new sets of shafts weighing 101-102 gms., 107-108 gms. and 115-115 gms. All had the current ferrule material (12.75mm. w/Le Pro tips) and all shafts were ordered with a taper on the stiff playing side. I sold the 115 gram...

A Reality Show - Worst Cuemaker's Poll by Category

All were used cues and I only had repairs done locally. My hassles started the first time I sent a cue out to have two new shafts made to a well known and respected cue maker in 1975. :)

A Reality Show - Worst Cuemaker's Poll by Category

Since 1975 I've lost track of the times I was treated unfairly by a cue maker. If you happen to find a good cue maker and have work done by him and happy with his product, it might be a good idea to take good care of him whenever payment is due.

    A nice pawn shop find...

I would but the Schon isn't my best pool related deal I've ever made. In the past I made "steal" purchases of two Balabushkas and one Gus. None of which I would consider "gems" but when I owned the Gus it was in excellent condition. This cue was shown on the forum in the past....

    A nice pawn shop find...

When I lived in Reno I noticed nice cues surfacing at pawn shops several months after the bi annual Reno Sands Regency Tournaments. I believe that most of these mid range cues available at the local pawn shops were the result of overindulgence at the gaming tables while participating in the...

    A nice pawn shop find...

Thanks Brian and I hope everyone reading this thread gets lucky too. My best find was a no veneer, six point Southwest with only one shaft and ivory ferrule. The pawn shop asking price was $199 but as usual I bargained and had it out the door for $100 even. It had a bit of the Southwest roll to...

    A nice pawn shop find...

Thank you, Adam. This acquisition comes at a time when things have been fairly rough for me. But things could always be worse, right? I'm thankful for the friends I have and what little I have. :)

    A nice pawn shop find...

Perhaps, but not necessarily so. Pawn brokers are required to take personal information for pawned items and held for a specified time, at least here in California they do. However, it does make one wonder who and why the cue was pawned to begin with though.

    A nice pawn shop find...

If most of the cues you find are Meucci, Viking, and McDermotts, that's usually a good sign. When I find an abundance of those brands of cues, I keep going back hoping for something better. The real secret (to anything) is to keep trying and never give up. ;)

    A nice pawn shop find...

I've seen some great finds from garage/estate sales and they're probably the best source since pawn shops have been offering their cues on e-Bay. I disregard pawn shop "asking" prices. If the cue is obviously overpriced I set my price and stick to it. If the person I'm dealing with is difficult...
