    The Passing of Danny Janes

Belated condolences. I have fancier and more expensive cues, but my playing cue is a Dan-Janes-made Joss cue. It is an off the shelf model but it just plays "right." Although we never met I've enjoyed reading about him over the years. A friend of the game.

Prayers For Dave Jacoby of Jacoby Custom Cues

I have a signed David Jacoby original cue that I treasure. I think it's a masterpiece of artistic design. I deeply respect his craftsmanship, imagination, and creativity. It is no exaggeration to call David Jacoby an artist. We all have to get off this round ball somehow, and I hope his passing...

Actual Brunswick Gold Crown iii vs Brunswick Centurion review

I realize this is a very old thread, but I think where OP's argument went wrong is when he said "I was going to get a Gold Crown. But if I’m going to do that it has to be a 4 and a 4 was out of my price range." What he's overlooking is that the GC I/II/III are all better than most lesser...

    Help! Commentator Name?

I actually worried about my memory for a while, but then I realized that whenever I think of someone, their face comes to mind immediately. So there's no problem with my memory, it's just names I have a problem with. To be honest, I always had trouble with names, it's not really an age thing...

    Help! Commentator Name?

That is it. Thank you fishless! Still mad at my brain. Evidently brains shrink as we age, and the part that's withering away in mine is the part with all the names in it. Thanks!

    Help! Commentator Name?

I have a vintage brain, and the da@n thing can't remember a name. No surprise. Pool match commentator, recent, has a thick British-Isles accent, used to be a player, recently started his own YouTube channel. (Not Neils Feijen. Not Alex Lely.) Can anybody help my brain? I'm angry at it, but...

Guide to Finding your Vision Center

That did help, a lot. It's an easy way to determine just where your head should be in the stroke. I've been hitting better ever since I read this, and I've stopped giving myself a crimp in the next trying to align my cue perfectly with my nose! Thanks.

Finally found a copy of Rags to Rifleman

Isn't Buddy Hall still alive? The internet says he is 77 and lives in Metropolis IL, but who knows if that's right. It's quite possible to self-publish e-books on Amazon; anybody can do it. But scanning all those pages would be a lot of work to set things up. If my information is not out of date...

Finally found a copy of Rags to Rifleman

Low but consistent demand. A reprint isn't warranted, but eventually the supply dries up and with the steady demand still there, the price goes up. It's a common occurrence in the book world.

    Rasson vs Diamond Tables

Thanks for saying that. Diamond's website frustrates me. I want more cool pictures and more to drool over. They haven't changed anything in years and years. It's beyond stale.

    Rasson vs Diamond Tables

Technically all of us. I recall reading about a family that tried to go a whole year without buying anything made in China and...failed. They couldn't do it. I also read that if Walmart were a separate nation, it would be China's ninth-largest trading partner. We all support cheap Chinese labor...

    Rasson vs. Diamond tables?

Then don't buy a Brunswick. All of their tables are just branded off-the-rack Chinese tables. They don't make a single table in the USA AFAIK.

    Rasson vs Diamond Tables

Yeah, but they're not Rassons. Rasson is a slate quarry with a vast factory attached (like half a million square feet) in Jiujiang City out on the Yangtze River, that makes OEM tables, mostly low-end, that are re-marketed around the world under all sorts of names. It's not like they're making...

    How did you learn 14.1?

Thank you for this, Lou. I've been doing this a lot and I find it fun, for one thing, and it's really improving my position play and my touch. And even my draw shot. I'm only running all 15 about 1 out of 5 starts, but with most starts I get pretty deep before missing or getting out of position...

    How did you learn 14.1?

Hey, OP here, I got to the second break today!! Set up the break ball and positioned the cue ball, racked, psyched myself up to concentrate on sinking the break ball and let the rack take care of itself, MADE the break ball...and then the cue ball went off about three balls in the bunch and...

    How did you learn 14.1?

Yeah why is that?!? I was yelling at myself for missing shots that are automatic most times. It's very interesting. All I want to do now is go out to the pool table shed and torture myself doing straight pool racks. o_O

    How did you learn 14.1?

Yes I can be good but it comes and goes. Today I was a mess--today I had my "Phat disease." Sometimes my sixtysomething eyebrain just wants to hit everything fat. Undercut everything. It's like a mental glitch. Sometimes it lasts for a few tables (racks), sometimes a few hours, once it lasted...

    How did you learn 14.1?

I've been trying 14.1 for the past two days and not doing very well. How did you learn 14.1? Did you rack and then shoot till you miss? Or did you keep going despite misses? It seems like all I do is rack the balls! I've racked about 60 times and my high "run" is 14 so far. I keep getting...

    COVID Era 1-2-3

I'll remember this philly. Seems like good advice. I've never even tried 14.1. I agree about focus. I notice the shots I miss, and often it's because of laziness, or because the shot is easy and I don't respect it, or I'm too lazy to get the bridge out. I'm trying to learn how to give every shot...
