The Passing of Danny Janes

As many of our friends, colleagues, and customers know Dan Janes has passed away. We lost our dear Dan on June 20, 2023.

Dan's life passion was for making the best cue possible. Throughout his career he had a lifelong quest to continually improve methods, materials, and aesthetics of the Joss Cue while insuring they had the best, solid play possible. Dan, Debbie, and Stephen would sit for hours and plan the approach to perfect a certain technique. The goal always to make the best playing, well-built cues with a range of price points. All cues being equal only some had more inlays or veneers. The play, the same!

I bought my first cue from Danny personally at his shop…I have many memories of shooting on the table in the foyer! R.I.P. Dan…

Perhaps I’m in a more reflective mood than normal, but the original post linked to this thread is one of the most well written and thoughtful things of its kind I’ve read in a long time. Not to take away from anything else, but that struck me as being about perfect in every way. Condolences to the family friends and coworkers. We should all be so lucky to be thought of in the way he was, and is.

Belated condolences. I have fancier and more expensive cues, but my playing cue is a Dan-Janes-made Joss cue. It is an off the shelf model but it just plays "right."

Although we never met I've enjoyed reading about him over the years. A friend of the game.
