for those whose home rooms are a SMIDGE too small....

Oh, okay, thanks--actually the heater is up at the ceiling, not in-floor. So you're saying there shouldn't be too much heating/cooling contraction/expansion damage to the wood/table?

for those whose home rooms are a SMIDGE too small....

OK, I see the consensus is a no-go on the 8-footer in that inside room. So Plan B is to put it in the garage. I live in Edmonton, so it gets very cold (-30C) in dead of winter and very warm (+30C) in height of summer. The garage is finished and insulated (the previous owner used it as a...

for those whose home rooms are a SMIDGE too small....

I just bought a new house and am looking at getting a pool table. There are just two options as to where to put it: the detached garage outside, and a room inside the house. The inside room is of course infinitely preferable. The only problem is that although the room has plenty of length...

    review: PureX (Players) HXT63

So, just got a chance to hit with my new HXT63. I want to preface my review by saying I'm just a hacker compared to everyone else here, I'm sure. I think my all-time high run in 14.1 is around 15 balls, I don't usually run an 8-ball or 9-ball table, etc. But I've played pool for a long time...

    rubberized grip - durability?

I just took the plunge and ordered a PureX (Players) HXT63 cue: http://www.seyberts.com/products/Pure_X_Technology_HXT63_Pool_Cue-104146-10161.html I've toyed around with those type of rubberized grips on pool cues while trying them out in store, and I really like the feel, better even than a...

    Valhalla or Players?

OK, OK, you guys have finally convinced me. I'm returning the Valhalla and just ordered that PureX with HXT4 and Kamui Black tip :)

    Valhalla or Players?

Sorry for the late check-in and review....I've been very busy with other pressing projects. The Valhalla VAL-004 cue did indeed arrive, and I've had a chance to play with it a couple of times. So far....not too impressed. It's a slight improvement over my current ebay stick. The fit and...

    Valhalla or Players?

Not yet, but looks like I'll get it tomorrow (Monday) or Tuesday at latest :) I may get a chance to hit with it immediately...I'll post review and pics when I do. @ PaulieB: Yeah, you know, I was really torn between this Valhalla and the PureX cue. In fact, I'm still torn, and of half a mind...

"Pocket size" is for the most part irrelevant.

I appreciate your taking my skepticism in the positive light with which it was intended :) The thing is, I think you may be making a logical causal conclusion that's really not able to be made, in this case. You said that the first day you tried these particular balls, you ran 75 in a row, an...

"Pocket size" is for the most part irrelevant.

I say this with all due respect...I really doubt twenty thousandths of an inch difference is enough to make a noticeable difference either in anyone's game, or the play of a pool table.

    Tip maintenance

Could one not take out the 80-grit sandpaper in the tip tool, and glue in some 120 or 150 grit sandpaper instead?

Is it OK to grab balls after a game?

I agree that it's nitpicking to call it, but really, there's no excuse for even giving the nit the opportunity to call it. By picking up a moving ball, you're saving yourself what, four seconds or so, in terms of re-racking or whatever? Surely that four seconds can't be that important to you...

add "nano-soft grip" to a no-wrap pool cue?

I was in a billiards store the other day, and for the first time handled a cue that had one of those "nano-soft tech grips". The grip was really comfortable and felt great--but was attached to a $300 cue. Since I have no desire to spend $300 on anything pool-related, I was wondering if there...

adding paint details to your own cue?

Hi folks, I'm buying a new cue shortly, a cheapie, and just was wondering (more out of curiosity than out of a burning desire to do it)...has anyone experimented with adding their own paint details to a cue? Not talking about setting the cue awash in wood stain....just small little details...

    Valhalla or Players?

Will post pics for sure once mine arrives. So the Outlaw felt cheap and dead only after hitting with it, I assume? Odd, because it really felt great in my hands. I guess I should've tried to hit with it in the store :(

    Valhalla or Players?

I ordered the Valhalla instead :) What specifically didn't you like about your Outlaw cue?

    Valhalla or Players?

Will do :) If you google "valhalla cue" and then click google's Images tab, there's a few ebay "real life" photos (I know what you mean, it's hard to tell what a cue really looks like from catalog photos).

    Valhalla or Players?

Well, I just got back from the billiards store. Empty-handed, I might add. They didn't have any Valhallas for me to try, unfortunately (although that's okay, because I already hit with my buddy's VAL-010 a few times, and from what the Valhalla rep said, they should all be pretty similar). I...

    Valhalla or Players?

Valhalla cues all feature a lifetime warranty that includes warping as well. Thanks everyone for the good advice. I'm going to take a long drive into the city today, and see if I can "test hit" a few cues at the billiards store. I know for sure they have some Valhalla cues, and I'll see if...
