I played Nick Varner last night

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to play Nick some 9-ball. He beat me 7-4. Even though I lost, I have always remembered it as one of my best pool accomplishments. I played a world champion and hall of famer... and I won a few games!!! I have talked to him several times through the...

    Earl Strickland in his prime

I've been watching Earl for about 20 years. When he's on... He's as good as they come. I doubt that any of his opponents (now or then) would be critical of his pool playing ability.

Poll: Which low-deflection shaft for you???

Have played with a 314 for several years and love it! I have less deflection in my fishing rod than the Meucci!

BCA Revises Dress Code, Bans Ipods

Most of organized sports (all team sports, golfers, tennis players, etc.) have dress codes. Even the beer guzzling bowlers :D tend to have dress codes! I don't see what's wrong with promoting a little class among the pool players. If we want to promote the game, we MUST make the game...

    Allison Fisher or Jean Balukas?

Both of these gals can play!!! At their best, I'd love to watch them match up! I have seen both of them play and it seemed that Jean was more dominant but I'm not so sure that the competition is not better today.

Tips on playing the bar box please

Typically, the bar box tables are more apt to have worn cloth, are not level and have deader rails. Also, the side pockets are much less forgiving. The hardest thing for me has always been adjusting to the larger and/or heavier cue balls. For many, this doesn't appear to be a problem. For me...

    Any shrinks in here?

I don't think that losing to better players necessarily makes me a better player. However, I am sure that competing against better players makes me a better player. Ideally, I search for better players to play against if: (1.) They are willing to play for free or for a minimal wager. (2.) They...

Fake it till you make it.

Thanks Joe. I enjoy reading your posts and threads. I attempt to be open minded but am not always acceptive of others ideas. Don't know is it's because of my self-centerness or if it's part of the human condition. I do know that when I feel good about myself, I have a better chance to be...

What type of shaft do you use on your playing cue?

I play with a Shoen with a 314 predator shaft. Have played with various sticks & shafts through the years and I love the solid hit, with minimal deflection, that I get with the predator. No criticism for anyone playing a different type shaft. It's all about the feel!

    Your very first cue...

First stick was an Adams. Gave it to a guy I was teaching the game to, a few years ago. Next was a Sneasky Pete. Have no idea who the maker was. Again, gave it to someone trying to learn the game. Next was a McDermott. Ordered it from the manufacturer with my name engraved on the butt. Still...
