Im looking at buying soft case as I aim to play alof of competitions in the next couple of years to gain more experience etc, and currently have a 3x5 Diamond Billiards case which is rather heavy when standing around for matches etc; so it makes sense to save weight and get a soft case.

Being based in the UK, the only ones available to me are Laperti and Buffalo, but I want to pick the brains of you AZBers to see if there are any other brands I could look into. Id like to know -

What brand?
Where from? Links to websites would be great :grin-square:
Id like a good quality soft case (is there such a thing? :p)...so any reviews of any would help :)

Thanks in advance guys and gals.

I have a Mcdermott Soft case & its decent. It is 1x1 with shoulder strap & two accessory pockets. Porper makes a simular one. Instad of plastic it is made of Cordura nylon which is tough. Most people here prefer the leather cases it seems. Got mine from www.seyberts.com

Thanks for the reply pal :) much appreciated.

I think if travelling alot as well, which is what I aim to be doing, then carrying a heavy case all the time does seem pointless.

I have revamped most of the Sterling line of soft cases. You can find them at www.CueSight.com

There are a few posts on here with pictures - I will look for them rather than repost all teh pictures.

Just to name a few custom makers you can choose from.. Jack Justis, JB (I own one), Whitten. If you watch the Wanted/FS section you will see on occasion, but if you would be better off to post what you are looking for. All of them create very high quality products, so based of your price range check them out. Site listed below:

JB Cases - http://www.jbcases.com/
Jack Justis - http://www.justiscases.net/
Whitten - www.whittencases.com/

If your looking for production cases, there are quite a few. To start you off you can look at Predator, Poison, Lucasi, Outlaw... etc etc.

Check out:

Hope this helps!!!!

Looks pretty good. I think I would go with the 4x8, but that's just me.

Can someone tell me the differences in cordura and vinyl? Why is the vinyl case $10 more? Thanks.

Why go for the 4x8? Reason I'd go for a 4x2 is Id only want to carry what I need for tournaments - Player Cue with 2 Shafts, Break Cue with 1 Shaft and Jump Cue with one shaft; and with the case having the usual small & big pockets, more than enough room to carry chalk, talk, towels, cue accessories etc.

Just my 2p worth

Hi as a former resident of the UK who now lives over here in Georgia I hope I can help. I have just bought a Sterling Wave (I got the 4x8) and I could not be happier, its as good as I have seen anywhere. The thing I liked most about it is the inside protection, it's the same as many Instroke Cases, it should be good it was designed in conjunction with John Barton! The pockets are as big as you will ever need, but again security of my cues was the most important. I spent sveral weeks researching and comparing cases and for the money this is truly an outstanding value. You will find other posts on AZ about them and I have yet to see a bad review.

I have the Black and Brown 4x8 and pictures don't do it justice and although not a true soft case it's kind of a hybrid.

I will post a link below to somewhere you can see them, I don't know if you can get them in Europe though. Just do a Google search for Sterling Wave Cue Case and see if anyone is doing a good deal on shipping to Europe if you can't find them over there. If not PM me and I'll see what I can do this end if you like the look of it. But don't forget to try e-bay too they were being sold there as well a few weeks ago.

You like it as well uh?

Does anyone know if Seyberts ship internationally? I cant find an email address for them otherwise I would have asked myself...

Yeah, they do. If you are going to order from Seyberts, go through the AZ Marketplace. Here's the link to the international shipping page:

http://www.azbmarketplace.com/pages/international_orders.html

There are a couple of other soft cases you might like. For high end Murnak makes a line of soft cases:

http://www.fist-inc.com/general leather/soft_sided.htm

John Barton (JBCases) recently posted some picks of prototypes he may be coming out with, you can ask him about those.

Middle tier is Instroke's line of bags:

http://www.instroke.com/catalog_in.asp?title_seq=11

On the value-priced end:

There are also the Lucasi soft cases:

The LC3 is black and says it's leather, but it certainly isn't going to be Murnak/Barton quality leather. The LC-5 in brown is not leather. I have an LC3 and it's a nice case with a good padded strap. The AZB Marketplace (Seybert's) has them: http://www.azbmarketplace.com/products/Economy_4X8_Soft_Case-1157-210.html and so does Pooldawg: http://www.pooldawg.com/product/lucasi-lc-3-4-butt-8-shaft-black-leather-pool-cue-case

The Silver Fox BR2 is also supposed to be a pretty nice case for the money. Here's a pic of one at Shooter's Billiards: http://www.shootersbilliards.com/silver-fox-cue-case-br2.html

J&J also has soft cases (see links to pages under the heading Soft Cue Bags):

http://www.jjcue.com/cuebag1.htm

Hope this helps.

Those are what I call a semi-hard case. It's made of fabric over cardboard. I call them butterfly cases and we make them as well.

Our price is $40 plus shipping. At less than 1/3 the price for double the capacity and better protection I think you will be happier with our version.

Incidentally, this style of case was invented by American Vinyl Products or at least popularized by them. I was the first to add pockets to the outside with my Instroke butterfly cases and everyone copied me. Just a tiny FYI lest anyone think I am knocking off Porper here. We were first.

If you do want to spend a little more and step up to leather then I will be happy to make you one like this in whatever colors you want.

Just $400 plus shipping (this blue one was $450 plus shipping)

Here is more: http://www.jbcases.com/butterflystyle.html

Or if you want it in vinyl or Cordura then I will do them for $225 shipped.

Either way you are getting a way better case if you buy any of ours in my biased opinion :)

BUT if I didn't make cases and I wanted to purchase a butterfly style case then the Porper is not a bad choice either. My first good hard case was a Porper and it served my well for a long time.

John, do you have any pictures of the inside of the 3x6 case pictured below? I really like the one you pictured better, but Sterling's description of the case I showed says it has a sleeve for a jump cue butt. I would rather have the 4x8, but I love the idea of a jump sleeve on the inside. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. I think I am going to get one of these this week. I just have to decide which one of the ones you pictured to get.

I would love to get one of your JB butterfly cases (I really want a leather one), but it is a little above my price point right now. I will get on your list sooner or later. Best wishes to you, your family, and your business :)

By Christmas Sterling will have a new line of the Butterfly cases which will be very similar to what I currently make on the JB side of things. We have decided that the butterflies need some new models.

Price points should be between $75 and $150 msrp.
