Not sure if it is typical or not but I took the following route through my cue progressions.

1st Cue: $20 Big-5 Sporting Cue bought off a friend (crap cue)
2nd Cue: $175 Solid Blue McDermott (low end production cue)
3rd Cue: $700 Schon LTD (higher end production cue)
4th Cue: $300 Tim Scruggs Custom Sneaky Pete (low end custom cue, one shaft)
5th Cue: $800 Local Cue Maker Custom (prettier medium end custom- two shafts)
6th Cue: To Be Determined (high end known custom)

Eventually I will purchase the 6th Cue which will more than likely be the last cue of my life. Hopefully a bit better play than the 5th cue but also a great design by a known maker.

How did your cue progression go?

1 unknown in the 60's
2 Viking $30 ( don't remember about this one it was early 70's)
3 Palmer $65 (original Palmer. This is when Palmers were just another old cue.)
4 Mali $125 (played ok - Made in US model from the 80's)
5 Schon $525 ( mid 80's should have stopped here)
6 Meucci $200 ( late 80's worst piece of junk of the group)
7 Cue tec $100 (not bad hated the sticky fiberglass shaft)
8 Lucasi $250 (current cue and thats it for awhile)

1 Adams free, I was 14. My next door neighbors boy friend gave it to her and her husband was coming home from deployment.
2 Free, don't know who made it. but I loved that cue. Later found out it was stolen and gave it back to the owner.
3 $100 Tim Scruggs, thought it was a Joss. Owned it for ten years before I found out what it was.
4 Meucci $80, Gave it away!
5,6,7 Started making my own cues.

DON'T EVER START MAKING CUES, IT'S AN ADDICTION!!!!!!!!!!!!
