What about 10 Ball

I remembered that the two object balls behind the one ball go outright, they don't have to bank and generally do not. Still to make them go we hit the rack with authority instead of the soft break (as in 9 ball) - which will only hurt the game and or make it it redundant.

It dont bank(isnt 100% accurate), it can bank but its more reliable if it goes straight in, it does get kicked out sometimes. Thats the weak link about the break. There is lots of traffic and it gets kicked on its way in. The balls have to be racked right. The small balls need to be racked at the back of the stack. Then the 1 ball has to be hit right at the right speed. This changes from table to table. With all that It takes someone who hits the ball good as you do and the right rack to make this a reliable break. Where in 9ball a few tricks and someone who hits them like me can make it work. I have zero chance in 10Ball to build a break shot, even tho I know how to.

thats the difference, seems that only top players can work the 10Ball rack and lots more players can work the 9Ball rack. IMO it takes a very strong player to be able to exploite the 10Ball rack.

Thanks for the input Fatboy, my point is that the game of ten ball takes the soft break away - far a long long way from home. I would be willing to bet that if a ref racks the balls and the player is not allowed to touch the rack or the balls (as it should be) then that top player your talking about Fatboy would not be willing to wager that he can call a certain ball on the break with an even money bet every time. I may be wrong on this as I am more of a 14.1 player than a rotation specialist, but again I have yet to see Corey Duel break soft or even semi soft while competing at ten ball.

Yeah, he has.

He had Larry Nevel pulling his eyebrows out at a tournament in Florida a couple of years ago. He was breaking and basically playing safe behind the rack IIRC.

I dont remember that, but it does sound like some clever move Cory would try. I dont think it worked very good because that was a long time ago and I aint ever seen it.

Danny's point is correct the 10ball rack is not gaffable(is that a word?) like the 9Ball rack is. However there are a few guys who have it figured out, Shane does. His 10ball break is damn near reliable as Cory's or Donnys 9Ball break. However Shane is about the only guy who seems to figure it out on almost every box he plays on. I'll go on record as saying since I started in 85 Shanes 10ball break is the best I seen in pro pool, not the hardest, softest, etc. but the most reliable from box to box he can adjust.

There are things I know but promised never to tell about breaking/racking that makes for reliable breaks. However its not useful to me because I just dontr have the goods to hit the white ball good enough to exploit those tricks, strategies etc. Some of them are gaff moves-most of them are legit not gaff things on 10ball, there are more gaff's on 9ball racks.

In summery you have to hit them good in 10ball to break good, and to a much lesser extent in 9ball. It that a fair assestemnt?

I don't see it replacing the 9 Ball event any time soon. I do think that the 10 Ball Challenge will continue to grow as it has since its inception, and who knows, may become the marquee event in time. But I don't think it will replace the 9 Ball event, nor do I necessarily think it should. I'd like to see the DCC just get bigger with both events.

I said your a character not that you had character, your an incredible flake. Not you Dogsplayingpool (just joking) 'little of like.' But I could not disagree more with you about 10 ball replacing 9 ball - that in my flaky opinion is a no brainer. Maybe I am just fishing for an entry into the fatboy ten ball challenge. Please note that I have been watching the pros argue for yrs. about the dreaded corner ball problem associated with 9 ball Not to mention the dreaded soft break - BUT I AM WORKING ON MY OWN SOFT BREAK PLAYING 14.1.
