Does three consecutive fouls in 8-ball constitute a loss of game? Different players that I've played with have their own interpretation of this.

Under the IPT, I believe this is a loss of game. What's the BCA ruling on this?
There is no three-foul rule in the current 8 ball rules.

From 1980 to 1985, presumably following the rules of nine ball, the BCA rules did include 3 fouls as loss of game. I played in two BCA national championships under those rules. The wording on pages 64-65 of the Rule Book in 1980 was:

LOSS OF GAME: A player loses the game if he commits any of the following infractions: (a) pockets the 8 ball on an illegal or foul opening break shot; (b) ...; (h) commits three successive fouls.

Also in that year, an optional ball-in-hand on any foul rule was offered, as well as a last-pocket option. For a brief history of the rules of eight ball, see http://www.sfbilliards.com/articles/2002-02.pdf

There is a stalemate rule now, and if no progress is being made towards a conclusion of the rack, the balls are reracked and the original breaker breaks again. See the full rules at http://www.wpa-pool.com/ for more details.

I thought I was losing my mind here for a second. Cause I could have sworn that we played by BCA rules in the tournies we used to hold in our poolroom and I knew that three foul was part of the rules.

Another thing that most people who played in our tournies weren't aware of until we brought it to their attention was that a scratch on the eight did not result in a loss of game unless the eightball fell as well.
