China Busts Smugglers Ivory Tusks & Pangolin Scales - 02-03-2019, 01:54 PM

The latest news on ivory smuggling outside the U.S.A.

HONG KONG (AP) Hong Kong makes record seizure of pangolin scales, ivory
By VIOLET LAW, AP / 1:49 am ET Sat Feb 02, 2019

Hong Kong customs officers have intercepted a record 8.3 tons of pangolin scales and hundreds of elephant tusks worth more than $8 million combined, underscoring the threat to endangered species from demand in Asia. Acting on a tip from mainland Chinese authorities, local officials found the haul in mid-January in a refrigerated container labeled as frozen meat from Nigeria, officials said Friday.

Ivory tusks are a cherished decorative craft material in Asia, resulting in the devastation of wild elephant populations in Africa. Under Hong Kong law, the importation and sales of endangered species and their products can be punished by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $1.3 million.

China and Hong Kong have sought to crack down on the illegal trade, although the semiautonomous port and financial center remains a major transit point for endangered species products and other contraband. Last year, following the outlawing of ivory sales in mainland China, Hong Kong's legislature enacted a complete ban on the local ivory trade to take effect by 2021, while raising penalties for offenders.

Let me see...........
What do you think the first clue was?
"a refrigerated container labeled frozen meat from Nigeria" ??
That one should have slid right past everybody.
Nigeria has long been recognized as a primary exporter of frozen meats in the world.

Pangolin are the likely carrier of coronavirus according to current testing.

And hospitals/doctors in China are allowed to used powder made from ground up Pangolin scales as a "traditional Chinese" cancer treatment. Doctors actually prescribe it....even though it is illegal. They make exception because they believe in magical supernatural treatments, and not evidence based care.

Not unlikely they also use honey, marijuana, and piss as well I would think. Or at least they should. Probably ZYTO Electrodermal Screening System as well.

Of course, they also have a cultural belief that it is good luck to toss coins into running jet airliner engines when boarding a flight. Several have been arrested for doing this.

Boarding a flight with a Chinese person? LOL! They actually do this. For real. Not a joke. And "educated" people do it as well. Really.

Gotta respect people's beliefs, right? No matter what? Right?

The majority of the animals found in Chinese markets for sale are illegal for a multitude of reasons. But they do not enforce those laws.

I think last year they had 20,000 flu vaccines for a billion people IIRC. They touted that as their great public health push.

They have laws and regulations against suppressing news of outbreaks. But the doctor that first spread the news about the current coronavirus was arrested for causing social unrest. He is not dead from coronavirus.

The Communist Party (Chinese government) has created a committee to oversee this outbreak. Several journalists and doctors have disappeared and/or died. There are no public health officials on that committee. The Premier of China is on that committee.

The reason the term "good stuff" is used is because of people, who surf the Internet looking for a reason to cry about something. Ever time the government gets involved something always goes wrong. If all the IVORY that has been taken and destroyed was still on the market the demand would not be nearly as high, the prices not nearly as high, and the poachers not nearly as willing to take the chance.

I would guess that one custom cuemaker would only use one tusk, not one pair, but just one single side for most if not all of their career to make inlays for their "WOODEN STICKS" I'm not talking about full butts ,just inlays.

As for the IVORY that the Chinese government took, they will say it was destroyed, but in fact it will be sold at a profit to the government, that's how they work.

Hive mentality, also known as modern liberalism....as directly and undeniably pursued by the current democratic party in the US and anybody that supports them in any way.
