Doesn't Teachers also have a pretty good weekly tournament friday night? I haven't been, but I want to say that I heard it's good competition with average-to-decent- money for a weekly.

Yes true - and the place in north county is called Redbirds not Cardinals Sports Bar.

Thread misdirection?

Wow. One of the posters has some serious reading comprehension problems.

The OP stated he "hasn't been playing so he's not looking for action, but would like to watch some." Translation: he's looking to be a railbird.

Somehow this gets turned into, why don't you play some of the best players in St. Louis....and not for cheap either.....and don't bother asking for a spot either.... seems like a wonderful town:wink:

Now I know why all the gambler's headed to the riverboats

I think the thread got derailed pretty quickly mostly because stl'ers never get to talk about stl... apparently there's not too much to discuss. Although I had never heard about those big money matches still being around, so I'm glad this thread isn't exactly on-topic. ;)

Us STL AZ regulars could meet sometime. How about a mini-tourney among us? :) Just putting it out there.

FYI... Tom is a great guy and plays about Jon Williams speed. Maybe he just wants to watch?

Wow, Duane. How can you insult Jon William's game like that, you've seen me play lately. I don't even know Jon but he can't play as bad as me, can he! :p

I appreciate all the action requests, but like a said my stroke is in no way shape or form to be brought out in public right now. It probably looks like a TX Chainsaw Massacre victim. :frown: Hopefully I'll have time to stop at a place or two and hit a ball. No joke haven't seen my cues since Jan.

Action is virtually non-existant in St. Louis. The economy with blue collar workers is in bankruptcy. About a dozen guys that have money to burn and play the same guys night after night defines the St. Louis "Action" economy. Although several underground rooms with gambling have a lot going on. But the ones I know of you have to be Asian to get into. Carom and SaGu games mostly.

Action drying up had nothing to do with Loiue dying - although it would be great if he was still around.

1on1 is 100% correct. Once the casino boats came to town, pool was done. Pool players dont even work at the pool rooms anymore - they all work at the casino as well.

...I knew a guy who shall remain nameless who was doing exactly that, and putting his money into play at the card tables. Unfortunately he was a lot better at pool than cards from what I saw.

It's hard to produce any great young players when there is no money to be made.

It's even worst than that: a player came into the room I play at the other day. I know him, he knows me, but we haven't played in years.

We woof and bark a bit and finally he says he only has $200 and doesn't want to play for much. I say, "What do you want to play for?" And he says, "$10 a game." I say, "Fine. You got 10-6 for $10 a game."

I win the first one. He wins the second one, and then he unscrews saying, "I got no chance." And he quits. Now I'm pissed.
BUT WAIT -- it gets better.

He gets on his cell phone, calls someone up, and I hear, ""Can I play Lou and have any chance at 10-6?" He listens for a while, hangs up, and I ask, "So... what'd the guy who makes your line say?" And he says, "He said the game wasn't out of line."

And he still wouldn't play anymore.

I don't know. They won't let me in unless I come with someone that speaks Korean....and they bought the 3 Cushion table from me! They are worried about police and trust very few outsiders. If your wife gambles high I am sure they will make an exception for you.

Hi guys

Hi guys,

Tony & I will be in Alton, Illinois (right across the river from St. Louis) from July 8th - July 11th. We are scheduled to run an exhibition at Riverbend Billiards Friday, July 9th, visit Atlantis Pools Saturday morning (tentative) & have another exhibition Sat, July 10th at Riverbender Community Center around 7pm. The Community Center is running a tournament for kids earlier in the day and the winners get to play Tony after the trick shot exhibition. Hope to meet some of the St. Louis/Illinois AZers out there!
