I agree, rolling over vaca days is a sweet perk. Wish I had that.

Our team won again last night against the first place team. We have overcome our dreadful start to the session and moved from last to tied for first place in 6 weeks. After losing two weeks ago and not playing last week I managed to put another one in the win column beating another SL6 in a tight hill/hill match. I currently sit in 2nd place in top gun with 77%. My teammate is in first with 78% and who just became a SL4 two weeks ago. 4 weeks left in session to get trophy.

When I worked for another company, it started off with 5 weeks accrued, you could bank 200 hours(you lost anything over that), there were 5 sick days and just about every holiday was worth another 2, plus a company retreat. After banking 200 hours, or somewhere around there, I figured I could take off every Friday for almost an entire year. My new boss didn't like that idea, but he sucked monkey butt and fired me for "not meshing" with him. It was a relief to get out of a culture where sucking up meant more than productivity.

...

I squeaked out another win last night against a 6. I just felt like I couldn't get focused again. Dunno what it's been about Tuesday nights this session. Tonight is the final night for masters and we've got first place locked up.. not that it matters, since we're already qualified for regionals. Sunday is in first for 8 and 9, while Tuesday should make it to playoffs in 8.

Also.. we should have 4 diamonds in by Friday! Taking a pass on the Fall bca regional and plan on going in March and taking home a little pocket change. I ought to be banking pretty strong on those by then.

so what do yáll advise for tomorrow night? cause it's $500 split -

Depending on how many matches are played in a session, I pro rate payments as follows:

$500 to split.
Pay back each player their weekly dues ($10?) per win.
Unless each player went undefeated, there will be cash left over.

(base on 8 player teams)

Say after all payouts, there is $80 leftover.
And you have one player that isn't showing up.
Pro rate that $80 based on which players played more than 25% of the session.

93/7 split if one player falls into the 25%.
That way the guy in the 25% gets about $5, everyone else gets around $10.

85/15 if two players fall into the 25%.
The two in the 25% get about $6, everyone else gets around $11.

It's a difference of a few dollars, but the amount of math will keep dumb dumb in the 25% from caring and everyone else will be happy.

That's solely based on Performance for the first payout, what's left is based on Attendance.

I think that it is bad for team cohesion to pay out based on performance, so I would forget about that option. If you want a compromise between paying out for participation (and presumably, investment) and paying out for being part of the team, I suggest paying everyone back what they put in during the season first, then splitting the rest.

i like this, too, except - 5 players @ 10 matches @ $10/match = $500 out.
pot was $210. 8-ball.

9-ball was 5 players @ 9 matches @ $10/match = $450 out.
pot is $500. it might work here. (as long as i've got my switchblade & .357 on me for that ASS!)

we are enjoying being a part of a league - it's new to us. it's on our home turf & 3 mls from home. we know >65% of the players for years, so it's fun. but KK9 is the best in the room & while there are 2 other players on his team who are good - he carried his team.

so i followed this ASS outside, and stopped him, and introduced myself, with my best Southern wiles. congratulated him on "their" win. shook hands. and said:

ENJOY YOUR WINNINGS, CAUSE MATT WON'T BE BACK NEXT SESSION. NOW YOU GET TO CARRY THE TEAM.

slapped him on the arm, and walked back inside.

Why not just ditch that alt and get another one? If you're having fun, it's cutting off the team to spite that one guy when he only played a few times anyhow. Not sure how UPA works, but I like the BCA subbing.. you just have a long list of people and whoever you can get ahold of is able to sub for you.

Apparently I'm not reading this per the Pink Oracle.

BTW, it's my 1st league ever, due to APA horror stories (other than American Rotation which is one on one and awesome if you play at a high level). But it was UPA, and we played locally, only on 9 footers.

Some good experiences/knowledge have been shared here on AZ, TY. After last night's payout money grab, our captain (who did a great job of kumbaya) asked me to take the helm next session.

All session long our team and opponents were fantastic.

Then the miniscule 3rd place 8B pay-out... The LO had handwritten on the bottom of the printout of standings/player results/payout - $4.20/match/player. ONE jackleg, who played 40% of matches bowed up and demanded full pay. I stared his ass down, with entire team present after pic's taken and gave him multiple reasons why it should be pro-rated. All I got was dialated eyes and 3rd grade angry logic. He'll likely pull jackleg tomorrow for 1st place 9B payout.

This was our captain's 1st captaincy. We live and learn, and will spell out distribution next session (without jackleg or me on the team).

Ain't nobody got time for dat!

The Pink Oracle lol...speaking of nicknames our Amster Tour guide gave me a new nickname while out in Punta Cana. If you add an E to the beginning of my last name to make it espina it translates to spike or thorn

http://www.wordreference.com/es/translation.asp?tranword=spike

My buddies liked it so it was used while drinking/playing pool. Speaking of I should create a Punta Cana thread with some pictures, but would have to throw in a few pool pictures to make it main area worthy unless everyone things that is sort of meh

Ah, I didn't notice that your 8 ball payout was less than you put in. In that case, prorating based on matches played seems like the thing to do.

That explains a lot and relieves so many concerns I had. Given that, I'll try and take it a bit easier on you. :grin-square:

i stated in my reply i always pro rated..... mainly due to the fact i always had a new players join 5-6 weeks into the session and pro rating was the fairest way to disburse the winnings.

in my opinion the method my 1st money league team used is the best method.

regardless if you played or not that week you paid your share. example. our fees were 40.00 divided by 8 players = 5.00 a week.

in the event you could not make it one week the captain paid your share that week and you paid him back. this method worked real well but there was always 1 or 2 guys that were short a week every now and then. the captain kept a note pad and marked who he paid for and when. when he was paid back the following week he marked it off.

at the end of the session all money was disbursed equally minus what you owed the captain. very seldom did some one owe more than 15 or 20 bucks.

in my opinion as long as every one pays every week regardless if you play or not this is the best method. due to handicap limitations or the way people matched up on a particular night it would not be your fault you did not play but at least you pay for that night and you get your money back at the end of the session for that night also.

let me share with you a story about this team

a few weeks into the session the captain says to me ...i got a new player and i would like for you to sit out some so i can get his matches in so he will be eligible for the play offs. i say no problem. i show up every week ...pay my 5.00 ...go to drinking and flirting with the girls.after 8 weeks go by the captain says he wants me to play .... i tell him keep playing the new guy ,he is doing ok.

well we go to play offs. the captain does not use me the 1st night and our team loses.

the next week the we win the 1st 2 matches. they throw their best player up. he is an 8. the captain and co captain are discussing what to do. they call me over and say they want me to play. i started laughing and said i see....ya'll wanna dump on him. they said yea cause the only got 4' and 5' left and we got 2- 8's left and we only need to win 1 more game.

i said ok. its an 8- 4 race....me going to 4 of course. i win 4-0. and we wind up in 2nd place winning 1,500.00.

the new guy ...who had never seen me play ...said to one of our team mates. he is only a 4? damn he played like a 9 or 10 tonight.

the captain said ...damn i shoulda used you like i started to last week.....we probably woulda come in 1st the way you played tonight.

i laughed and said i guess the time off did me good.

We placed in 8 ball and 9 ball for the LTC and I finished 6th on the MVP list. Not bad for a JuicyGirl

thank you all, again! good story, lorider!

it's not by weekly dues, though. whoever plays, pays $10/match. alternates are called in when needed. the issue w/ this dude, is that he claims he was called to fill-in, and showed up (the 4 matches that i apparently missed), then didn't play. the Captain claims that he had to find an alternate, cause this guy never responded in time &/or was late....

which also begs the question: what is the cut-off time @ forfeit?
1) when a player is late for a scheduled match?
2) when a team is late to fill the bill?

all of the teams/players have had this issue, and NO ONE knows the answer. so we wait around for 1-2hrs (spending $ - on Cokes;)). i understand an alternate showing up & their time being wasted & trying to make a claim. it's happened to us & we either left, or stayed & watched - our dime; no big deal.

but it's going to be a BIG deal tomorrow night @ $100 (5) vs $72 (7) split. and God forbid, it's prorated....

NAPA Laggers-Choice. My team's last match for the regular session (we have the last Bye.)

Last night we really needed a win or two to lock in a top 4 spot to make it to the playoffs. We did not achieve that.

I played 10-ball, 4-6 race (I go to 4). I lost 6-1 and am really upset about it. I don't know that I should have won but I played really badly and then (and this is really what bothers me) started to get outwardly upset. I really believe in the idea that when you walk away from the table no one should know whether you won or lost just by looking at you.

So blah. I don't expect to get to the playoffs so I will focus on NAPA Nationals and my golf game (not the pool variant.) :)

We were bumped down to second place by 18 points.
We put up another SL5 first, against one of their SL5's, we won the first match barely.
I was second. I sharked myself last night and almost lost to a SL4. I won 38-26, giving us a 13-7 score :(
Our SL2, that we normally play, couldn't make it. So, we had to forfeit the last match, giving up 15 points.
I know the team that passed us in the points probably destroyed their opposing team, so we need to tighten up.

1st place was ahead by 18 points.
3rd place was behind by roughly 100 points.
4th place was behind by roughly 150-160 points.

Last night in my Wednesday night league I play a guy who is much better than me in 9 Ball and I get spotted 6 games in a race to 11 so I only have to win five. I already beat him once last year. I win the first two games so I only have to win three and he has to win eleven. I am so psyched I bet him $20. BIG MISTAKE. He beats me 11-10!!! Unfortunately when I was ahead 10-8 I got robbed of a win with a beautiful bank shot where the 9-ball stopped a millimeter from the pocket!!! Then when we're hill-hill it took us 3 innings to get the nine. He was so good hiding the cue ball he got me on three fouls three times.

My 9-ball team has solidified our stranglehold on last place, once again not winning a single match tonight. Sigh.

I lost to another SL5, 38-30. Had my chances, didn't close the deal, nothing new here, move along.... He and I always have good matches. His 8-ball team is chasing ours, and we see them again on Tuesday, so retribution is on the menu.
