Ian Anderson, head of WPA, just announced that the QBSF has been notified that the World 9ball Championships would no longer be held in Qatar. Said another organizer was ready to take over but didn't specify. Said announcement to follow in coming days. This was posted on the BritishPoolFederation FB page about 20min ago.

No World 9 ball this year ?

Hmm, so prima facie it looked like WPA sacked QBSF, it is really other way round QBSF fired WPA :)
QBSF wants to stop hosting supposedly they say this year 2020 will be their final year hosting W9B and next year they will start their own event. But QBSf did not confirm this in writing so WPA fired them.
Thing even if WPA has backup organiser who is willing to take over, it is unlikely they will host this year's event since 10 or 11 mths is too short and not enough time. For eg. when Matchroom announced they are taking over US Open in March 2018, they only hosted 1st event in April 2019
So we will likely not see a World 9 Ball Championship this year :(
And the last time there was no World 9 Ball was 10 years ago in 2009.
The time is ripe for a reboot and let's hope the new organiser takes it to greater heights.
The 2 best candidates are Matchroom and CSI. Matchroom have their hands full and CSI just added 3 WPA events in 2019 so not sure they have appetite for more.
So we could likely see a new organiser?

I don't know what the final outcome here will be, but for what should be the sport's most prestigious title it was languishing in Qatar. Hopefully whomever takes it over will return it to the prominence in pool that it deserves.

Recognition is due to Qatar for saving the event, but they have not been good stewards in recent years.
