I just returned from a bachelor party out there and the highlight of the trip was definitely our visit to one of the gun ranges there. We talked to our concierge at our hotel, got a discounted package rate and got to shoot 4 guns at the range. The highlight was definitely the opportunity to fire downrange with a SCAR and a P90. It was a little bit expensive, but well worth it for us.

Read OMGWTF's blog. She always finds the best food. Most of it I think is off the strip, but the photos always look awesome.
IMO, the Gold Coast had a pretty good buffet. With their players card it was plenty cheap too.

Go to margaritville.. reasonable prices on food and drinks but always great live entertainment. When I was there for pool that was a great spot and make sure you head to the bellagio for the water fountain shows every night. I think they go off every 15 minutes and its always something different and its free.

My one great food suggestion is merely about convenience. If you're up for a steak, go to "The Steak House" at Circus Circus (across from the Rivera). It's truly a great steak house and you're not going to get any better without adding $40 to & fro cab fare. Go hungry.

If you find yourself with a free day, visit the Grand Canyon. I think too many pool players fail to see this incredible natural beauty and there's really nothing else like it in the world.

I'll second The Steak House at Circus Circus.

One of my favorite places to go is Kahunaville in Treasure Island. Good food and a fun time. The dueling piano bar in NYNY was a lot of fun. The buffet at the Rio is good, but pricy. Of the few shows i've been to, Mystere was the really cool (if you're into that kind of thing). I found Penn and Teller boring, as well as the Peep show at Planet Hollywood. The rides on top of the Stratosphere are pretty crazy.

Another good restaurant is "hash house a go go". Prices aren't bad and can feed about 4 people per plate.

Congratulations.

If you forget to bring a change of clothes, you can buy everything from the neck down at the Ross Outlet. It's just down the block from the Riviera.

If you're going to the steakhouse at Circus-Circus, don't jaywalk. If a police officer see you, he'll give you a citation. You'll need to go to an intersection and wait for the light to change.

The hotels on the strip appear closer than they actually are. If you're going to walk the strip, do it after sundown. It will be cooler, and more comfortable.

The buffet at the Bellagio is amazing. Be careful walking the streets after dark.

So how close are things there? I will probably be there with my son in July for the Jr Nationals and would like to see some things with him between his matches and other events. Going to make sure I bookmark this thread for later.

July in Vegas.. hmm.. shouldn't really matter how close things are. Why? Because you'll want a cab when it's 100-110. There are some shuttle services that are free that hop between hotels/casinos, too.

If you like Italian food, Nora's on Flamingo is the place to go. Food is amazing. It's a good way's off strip ($15-20 cab ride each way) so fill up a cab.

I agree. If you can't find something on that buffet you need to quit eating

While not on the strip, it is close. Mortons Steakhouse formerly Mortons of Chicago is Excellent, but not a place for a tight budget. They have killer steaks...

Being from N.E. I don't think about stuff like that LOL, you make a good point. And the kids wear black pants and shirts, won't be too good for them outside.

Next to the Flamingo, sort of behind it and across the street from Balleys there is a little bar, I think it's called The Happiest Place On Earth, it's connected to a convenience store. It appears to be a sort of a local dive. I love that place, Nickle slots at the bar, $1 Beers usually PBR and something else, hot dogs all night, I think I had about 7 the last time we were there. If you get there early enough in the evening and you get a seat at the bar while you're waiting for friends to head to the $40 Buffet, there's a good chance you'll settle for hot dogs and dollar beer for the evening. It's the best time in Las Vegas (while most of your cloths are still on, MOST!). The bartenders were hot and friendly and we drank there until, well, I left at 3 but it was still going strong. I had diet soda most of the night but still tipped and they bartenders never brushed me off even once.
Right next to that place, about 100 feet closer to the Flamingo was an Italian place called Bautista's. Excellent. It's Italian family style and they served in flights. They'd seat the whole restaurant then serve. The servers were smart ass and fun. There was plenty of atmosphere, the wine was good and the food was outstanding.
Maybe it was just me and our little group, but these places were the shit. We had the best time, it made playing like poop not all that bad. Can't wait to get back there
