............ Updated through 2024 ............

Here are the career Mosconi Cup records for all 44 players who have ever played on Team USA, 1994 through 2024. The players are listed by number of appearances (most to least) and then alphabetically for players with the same number of appearances. The information was compiled from the yearly match results shown on Wikipedia, from matchroompool.com archives, and from my own records. The records for Team Europe are in post #2.

Method A. Under this method, I counted a full win or loss for each player in each match (i.e., not splitting the point into fifths or sixths for teams matches, or thirds for trebles matches, or halves for doubles matches). So these numbers answer the question: "In how many winning and losing matches has each player been involved?" [Note: These records show wins and losses, so a record like 16-21 means 16 wins and 21 losses, not 16 wins out of 21 matches.]

Method B. Another way of looking at the records is to count a full point for each player in a singles win or loss, a half a point for each player in a doubles win or loss, a third of a point for each player in a trebles (played only in 2006) win or loss, and one-fifth of a point (one-sixth in 2006 when the teams had 6 players) for each player in a team win or loss. So these numbers answer the question: "What numerical contribution has each player made to the overall Mosconi Cup match scores?"

The following player records are given as matches won and matches lost for singles (s), doubles (d), trebles (tr, 2006 only), teams (t), and totals for the two methods described above (total A and total B, with winning percentages for each).

Hard to figure why the Europeans passed on Albin Ouschan with an 8-1-2 career Mosconi Cup record, over the last 2 years, the only 2 years he was on the team. I assume they must use a points system to qualify, otherwise there is no way Vandenberg or Alcaide, both with losing career Mosconi Cup records, would have made it ahead of him.

Maybe they just want to give the US a fighting chance. It's no fun if its a blowout every year.

• Earl Strickland (14 yrs. -- 1996-2008, 2013) ..... 14-12 s, 24-12 d, 2-0 tr, 3-2 t, 43-26 total A (62%), 27.2-18.4 total B (60%)

I agree, it's hard to ignore Earl's contribution, especially with this record spanning 14 years.

I have no idea who the opponents were vs the black widow or the Texas tornado but amazing records by both women . I see earl has a pretty good record also.

Thanks for posting this.

I find it remarkable that the totally different styles of The Pearl and The Kaiser have
very similar results over the long haul....it’s true...there’s more than one way to skin a cat.

And thanx to AtLarge for the info

Lee's 2 wins in singles were over Stark and Davis.

Lee's 3 wins in doubles were (1) with Hunter over Ortmann and Fisher, (2) with Villarreal over Stark and Fisher, and (3) with Hunter over Souquet and Stark.

Villarreal's 3 wins in singles were over Fisher, Stark, and Tucker.

Villarreal's 2 wins in doubles were (1) with West over Souquet and Stark and (2) with Lee over Stark and Fisher.

Lee and Villarreal are the only two players with perfect career records in the Mosconi Cup. (Of course, they only played that one year, 1994).

An undefeated record in a single event has been achieved 14 other times:

Strickland in 1997 (5-0), 2001 (3-0), and 2005 (4-0)

Jones in 2001 (3-0)

Williams in 2001 (3-0)

Deuel in 2001 (3-0)

Morris in 2004 (5-0) and 2005 (4-0)

Archer in 2012 (6-0)

Souquet in 2008 (6-0) and 2013 (4-0)

Feijen in 2013 (5-0) and 2016 (4-0)

Ouschan in 2016 (5-0)

So, in total, a player has gone without a loss in a year's event just 16 times out of a total of 264 player appearances (6.1%).

In doubles, 10 players have never lost a match. But 3 of the 10 (Tucker, Richardson, Griffis) never played in a doubles match, so they don't really count.

Lee (3-0) and Villarreal (2-0) in 1994 have already been mentioned.

The other 5 players undefeated in doubles are West (3-0 in 1994-1995), Butera and Wilson (both 2-0 in 1994-1995), and Wiley and Facquet (both 1-0 in 1996).

No one who played in 1997 or later has gone undefeated in doubles.

Interesting to see that of the 4 the players on the USA team that have played in previous mosconi's that only hatch has a wining record in singles....barely.

Hatch 4-3
Svb 10-15
Sky. 0-3
Oscar 0-2

Man I wish I had known about lee's and villareal's undefeated records in mosconi when that men vs women thread was running wild . :grin-square:

Here's a thread that shows the overall records for this year's teams: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=459910

Most Cup appearances -- Archer, with 17. Souquet is second with 16, so he will tie Archer for the lead next week.

Most Cup wins -- Archer and Strickland, with 9. Feijen is next with 8.

Most Cup losses -- Immonen, with 10. Souquet, Van Boening, and Davis are second with 9, so either Souquet or Van Boening will tie Immonen for the lead next week.

Update of Post #9 to include results from the 2017 Cup:

Lee, Villarreal, and Filler, all with 5-0 records, are the only players with perfect career records in the Mosconi Cup. (Of course, they only played one year).

An undefeated record in a single event has been achieved 14 other times:

Strickland in 1997 (5-0), 2001 (3-0), and 2005 (4-0)

Jones in 2001 (3-0)

Williams in 2001 (3-0)

Deuel in 2001 (3-0)

Morris in 2004 (5-0) and 2005 (4-0)

Archer in 2012 (6-0)

Souquet in 2008 (6-0) and 2013 (4-0)

Feijen in 2013 (5-0) and 2016 (4-0)

Ouschan in 2016 (5-0)

So, in total, a player has gone without a loss in a year's event just 17 times out of a total of 274 player appearances (6.2%).
