★★ 2ND ANNUAL STEINWAY CLASSIC ★★-8/25-8/27 FREE Stream

While the stream is gratefully appreciated, and I truly mean that, I for one would rather pay for a stream than deal with that choppy, unreliable, constantly blacking out that Ustream is.

I was really enjoying listening to Archer's perspectives, but even the audio was so choppy that I had to walk away from the broadcast.

If us hardcore guys can't watch it, imagine how long a newbie to pool would keep their attention.

I vote for paying for a good stream from someone better than that Ustream. With 5 or 6 hundred viewers, at 10 bucks each, that has to cover using a better provider. Not to mention, I'll bet the sponsors would appreciate a congruent commercial.

Again, no disrespect for the stream, but plenty for Ustream.

Archer comments

CMBWSU,
You're obviously watching the stream. I had it on mute, but from comments, sounds like Johnny was being interviewed. Do you have the abridged version of what was discussed?

I was a little disappointed. Johnny talked about the importance of working to improve the image of pool and pool players, then spent at least five minutes going over his conflict with Mike Deschaine.

A little later he responded to a question about the Mosconi Cup by basically saying "You may see somebody get knocked out this year!" When asked what he meant, he said something like, "We've got some size this year. Can you imagine Buddy Hall getting hold of somebody with those giant hands of his? And we've got a couple other guys who can knock you out, too." I'm paraphrasing here, as the commentary was very choppy, and the coverage went off the air countless times during every match. But I wonder why someone trying desperately to promote pool would be talking about the chances of violence at the Cup. (I do understand that violence sells, and Johnny made it very clearly that ratings are a priority in securing sponsors.)

Again, I'm paraphrasing what Johnny said, and he was interrupted a number of times by commercials and "off air" times. Maybe he was joking about having tough guys on the team...I think a fist fight is the last thing we need to bring pool back to popularity.

I like Johnny and was very pleased to see him named captain of this year's MC team. I consider him a great player/coach for a pool match, but he might consider a coach to help him with his on air comments.

Or I could be wrong. Many folks love the fights in baseball and hockey. Maybe pool should become more like professional wrestling...fake arguments, grudges, fights and injuries. Drama! We could add a Calcutta for a free-for-all fight between all players out behind the pool hall!

I think I better get away from this keyboard...

Keep using ad blocker and the streams will no longer be free!

While I do have ad blocker on, it was originally added to my browser for other reasons, I do pay a monthly fee to ustream for a premium membership which also blocks out the ads.

Just a little disappointed....

I watched and listened to what JA was saying and I almost fell off the couch a couple of times. He hinted at one point that the MC & BB may be coming to the new Fox Sports Network. That was news to me.
Just when you think things are moving in the right direction........He also stressed over and over how important it was to get pool on network television. Really, we are talking about how important network television is?? after a solid week plus of streaming pool?
I am sorry to say JA might just be out of touch. Network TV is the future of pool? I thought I was transported back to 1990.....He literally said that it was important, "especially now.", ..
The only people that still watch "network television" are my parents and they're in their 80's !! Let's hope someone other than JA is making decisions on the future business model for pool... Jmho.

Streaming peaks of a 1000 aren't going to get you blue chip sponsors..

Plus there is the prestige

Could you please elaborate..

Does more harm to the pool's cause than anything JA could say.

I assume you are talking about when Shaw missed the five, I was watching but had no volume. It looked like he got into with Earl about sharking but it was hard to tell. Did he accuse Earl or what exactly happened?, if you know?

Earl stood up and sharked Jayson

Jayson had been playing with headphones to block out earls antics. Jayson ran out of music, lol. Jayson went on tilt and snapped his jump cue after the match.

If you missed the final it is being looped now at 8:30PM PT / 11:30PM ET on 8/27.

Hi Bob,
many thanks for your updates and networking from Germany.

Good Job!

Thank you sir. By the way, I had the German forums bookmarked but somehow it got deleted. Would you be so kind as to pass the link so I can start posting there again?

Thanks in advance,

Bob
