Just last night I decided to do a conversion on one of my cars. I am going to get top speed of 65-95 mph and 80-100 miles per charge. The kit cost $2500 but I am going to try to fab many of the pieces and do it cheaper.

If it works out well, I am going to do two more of my vehicles so we all have in town commuters and keep a couple other gas fired cars for longer travels...

I am really looking forward to cutting the gas companies out of my day to day life :)

Good for you! I commend you on your endeaver. Please keep me posted as I too would like to try and convert one of my vehicles , and keep the gas boys out of my wallet!

agree

correcting the demand side will never have an effect on the pricing of oil-as you just asserted(this has been a topic of discussion among economists for years-its as futile as "The War on Drugs" thats the general consesis anyways),

Oil prices are controlled on the supply side(something we cant control) the monopolies and Oligopolies that's who control's the price of oil and decrease'es our M1 money supply which in turn is what is hurting our economy every time someone fills their tank $30 goes off shore and cant be recirculated in our economy here at home, They(the oil boys) tout it as a demand pull inflation on their product suggesting we use to much to make it look as if were bringing this problem of inflation on oil prices our fault. When the reality its a cost push inflation they creating to make more $$, they are pushing the cost up because they are monopolies and Oligopolies that control the supply and pricing.

I had a lot of years of economics in school and could go on but wont, in simple terms the fix is in, and they twist it to make people feel resposnible for increased fuel prices, how strong is that??? raising your prices and having your customers blame themselfs. WOW. Its the same con when your spotting someone the 8 ball you could give them the 5 and they are mad at themselfs for losing. sorry about the poor spelling, i missed that class but not the 15 semisters of Economics.

I agree 110% with you on this fatboy! Those oil boys and foreign suppliers are the real problem with these high gas prices! and The sooner we all learn that the sooner we can demand our goverment to do something about it.

Actually that isn't quite true. If demand decreases then so do the prices. That fundamental law of supply and demand is something that not even cartels can escape. Once a viable competitor enters the market then it usually drops prices across the board.
I think that this is the problem of which Fatboy speaks... In a Monopoly and Oligopoly there are no new viable competitors to enter the market. Therefore, the prices are pretty much set by the Monopoly or Oligopoly, in this case.

Demand may have some impact; however, it would need to be a dramatic shift in demand. Small changes in demand will not influence the price at all.

I think a lot of you are missing those that are getting a free ride on the price of fuel today. If Philip Morris makes .50 cents a pack manufacturing smokes, then why does it cost me $6.00 by the time I buy a pack of smokes in Washington state? What is the actual cost of the oil today being purchased, and how much fat tax is applied to that cost before it gets to the consumer? When the cost of oil goes up, so does the taxes, but the cost of collecting those taxes stays the same! I think I read somewhere that the taxes on fuel is about .65 cents a gallon, so my question is....who's really making the money on higher fuel prices?????????

When the tobacco industry was sued for all the health issues and took ALL the blame, people sort of missed the FACT that our own Government, State, and local cities and counties were the get away drivers in that robbery!!!! Meaning ALL smokes pass through their hands first, knowing all the health issues, BEFORE the consumers ever buy a pack of smokes, but when the shit hit the fan, they ALL said they're NOT responsible for any of it, therefore they CAN'T be sued!!!!!

And now the same thing is taking place, blame the oil companies, but don't blame the GOVERNMENT....even though they collect the highest percentage of the cost of fuel on every gallon of fuel sold in this country!!!!

I meant viable as in alternative to oil. :-)
