1 Pocket - 1-Rail vs. 3-Rail Kicks

On this particular shot, the first three rails are running with the angle of the shot (CB hits the rail and goes to the right), but the 4th reverses (hits the rail and goes left). So the running english the CB picks up on the first three rails turns into reverse english on the 4th rail and slows down the CB. So you've got a fairly wide range of speeds that kill the CB behind the 7. That's one of several reasons the 3-railer seems better to me.

Cory,
You articulated and extended my thoughts about the three railer and speed, Perfectly.

Actually with the speed required to get the cue ball to the required location, the cue ball will lose its side spin before it gets to the fourth rail. Granted that the third rail will enhance the running english but it will wear out before it reaches the fourth rail and just have forward roll.

Jay is correct that either of these two shots should be the last options and that kicking for safe only and not to try to save giving up one of your balls. Attempting to hit a ball to a rail could be disastrous because of the scratch involved. However PJ wanted opinions on both kick shots. I myself prefer the one railer if I had to choose especially on a questionable table. The three railer has too many variables involved.

Agreed.

Just as a genera rule of thumb: all you have to remember is that if you're sitting on the second diamond, you aim at the second diamond on the far opposite rail to come into the first diamond near your opponent's pocket.

Shoot one test shot and you should be able to make any minor adjustment you need and hit the shot 10 out of 10 (or close to that :-)

IMO 3 rail is the only way to go there.Id thin the 5 and put cueball under the 10 .If whiteys not on the rail hit the 2 and suck the cue into the stack between the 4 and 15 if you have the control
