Chandley's Chalk and Cue Pool Hall in Statesville NC has apparently closed. The phone is disconnected and Google lists it as permanently closed. Opened less than two years and gone. On a brighter note there is a new owner of the venerable Brass Tap in Raleigh. I guess it was time that Tony Coates and his lovely wife take retirement seriously. Good for them, they had a long run something like 25 plus years of running a pool hall is a lot. I hope the new owner has as much success as Tony and his wife.

Too bad. I made a detour to Chandley's one time driving down I-85. The place was impressive, but (unsurprisingly for a weekday afternoon) deserted. Statesville feels like the middle of nowhere - technically within driving distance of Charlotte and Greensboro/WS, but very low-density in the surrounding areas. Maybe if it were closer to one of the big cities it might have done better, though obviously rent costs would have been higher.

That is a shame. Chandley's looked like an awesome pool hall. I think he is running a shaker club or something like that now.

Sad news about Chandley's. I was wondering how a pool hall that big, that is located in such a small town, out in the middle of nowhere could survive.

Happy to hear that Brass Tap found a new owner, instead of closing down, after the owners retired. I still want to visit someday. I used to hear great things about it when I lived in Chapel Hill, but never visited. I heard that Mike Coltrain played there.
