1 year withouth pool or snooker, how to keep up skills

Your health should come first.

I had to take breaks anywhere from 6-12 months over the years.

Write down what your doing now so you won't need to completely start over this could also be a perfect time to bank some money and book some lessons with a good coach. So when you start over its not so bad.

Bottom line is no one can keep up their current level of play or anything like it after a year out. Playing left handed will just make you shoot better with your left hand, and most likely you will shoot better than with your right hand after its healed. But, the most important thing is to let it heal fully. Come to terms with your standard dropping upon return. I would make a log, of everything you do fundamentally... How you grip the cue, how your feet are placed how you pull the cue back and also video my self from all angles so upon return I have something to rely on to get back into the swing of things.

It's amazing how a long time off can make you forget how to do something simple like holding a cue that you've done for years.

Just one more thing...because you can't play for a while doesn't mean you can't post on here regularly :-)
