10 ball ring game rules argument...

6 spots and 10 spots next shooter up or pass back!

in a ring game we play that if the ball flies off the table it spots and the 10 spots as well but, I think each area has its own interpretation as this post shows.
Its always best to clarify all rules of play before starting the game because this will happen often and someone may not be happy.

Any ball of the table is a foul.
Any ball pocketed on a foul shot is spotted.
No ball in hand unless cue ball went off or into a pocket.

6 & 10 spot, next player plays from where the cue ball lies.

I like this answer the best because it makes more sense and it's pretty cut and dry.

However generally there are no rules set in stone for rings games. Rules will differ from location to location. Many times things happen that will require a ruling. It's difficult to anticipate all the unusual things that might come up. The ruling is made for future play and the game continues.

My experience tells me that the rules are hashed lot prior starting and sometimes some things are added as they come up.

You know...I came back to this thread and had to think it through a bit more...and I think I have to change my point of view....

6 was struck all legal like...CB never left the table...had the 10 not fallen it would have been "spot the 6"....keep on moving. What would you do if the 8 fell and not the 10?

I retract my earlier statement and say the shooter wins.

<---keeping my disclaimer intact. :)

You make an interesting point however, I think that the object ball has to either be pocketed or stay legally in play in order for the other ball to count.

Here's my .02 before I read the rest of the responses. I would say it's a foul when a ball flies off the table. So the 6 gets spooted and any balls that were pocketed come up also. So in this case the 6 and the 10 ball get spotted. Since it is a foul, the incoming player gets option of shooting or giving it back to original shooter. Obviously there is no BIH rule in ring games so cue ball stays where it is.
Doesn't make it "the" rule, but this is how we play.

I sure wouldn't want to play in any ring game with ball in hand. That would be suicide with good players in the game.

And yet there apparently are people who play that way, not knowing any better. Like throwing raw meat to the wolves! This is what 9 ball and, eventually, 10 ball will come to. Thank the gods for One Pocket and Straight Pool and other games.
