10 ball rules

I have seen a number of 10 ball tournaments where if you did not called a safe shot and missed the intended shot the next shooter could have you shoot again. The object ball was hit first, a rail was hit, etc but missed the shot without calling a safe.

What rules are those, bca, apa, something else.

This problem I had tonight started about a year ago, playing some guy that is a sort of a regular in the pool room. He asked me to play and I said only if you know the rules. He said ok, bca 8 ball rules. We start playing and I am winning just about all of the games and he says that we need to call all kisses and combo shots, etc. I said, ok, no big deal. He then starts making up some rules here and there telling me that it is so that luck is taken out of the game. We get to a game where I am running out and have a long shot at the 8 ball and one of his balls is near the pocket and I have to ask the question since he is making up rules that are not bca. If I call that pocket and the 8 hits your ball, do I have to call it a kiss. He says yes, I say that is not how the pro's play, that is some bar room bullshit. You know what I am talking about, when some idiot says the 8 ball has to go in CLEAN. Then tells you that you hit the rail an inch before the pocket and says that you did not call a rail first, YOU LOSE.

He says he is calling out the pro rules, if they are that good they can make that shot clean or calling a kiss.

So, Instead I shot a two rail bank towards another pocket and miss but I end up winning in the end. So, I tell the guy, hey, you need to get your own table or play someone else because I come in here to have fun and not play mind games.

He gets pissed, telling me that all he wants is to take luck out of the game and the pro's should go by his rules,

A couple of times after that he asked me to play and I made up some excuse that I was just there to practice, etc. Basically, I don't want the DRAMA.

I have not seen the guy in a few months, I heard he was in jail for something, DWI, child support, something.

Then there is another guy that looks like him that hangs around and he is very nice who I have played with in a few ring games.

Tonight the rule maker shows up and asks me to play. I say yes, thinking it was the nice guy. I tell him, ok, 9 ball, the rules are simple. I make a couple of shots where you have two ways of making a ball and make something so he says, lets play ten ball.

He breaks and I call roll out, He decides to shoot at the one ball and does not make it or call a safe. I asked, did you want to call a safe on that shot and he says no.

The one ball is barely visible and the shot would be a table length bank to make it so I say, ok, you shoot again and he says no. He shows me the bca roll out rules on his smartphone and I say, the roll out is over once you decide to shoot or give it back to me. So, it is a regular game play shot and if you don't call a safe and miss, I can give it back to you. No, he goes on about the roll out and I tell him, hey go play someone else.

That's when it hits me, he is the rule maker guy, not the nice guy.

I said the rules we are playing with cuts out all luck, its call pocket, call safe, thats what you wanted the last time and now you don't want it.

Oh, so he gets mad, starts talking shit, lets play for 10, 20, 40 a game. I am thinking, shit, I play two, three balls better than this guy but how do I get a game with him without all of the drama.

So,
1. who's 10 ball rule is it that you can make the other person shoot again if they miss without calling a safe.

2 Was the roll out over once he decided to shoot at the one ball.

3. what game to play him. And I will only do it if there are other players in the room that know rules and have a ref to call fouls because he will ***** about something.

I wouldn't waste my time playing him. Sounds like a chore rather than fun.

His 8 ball rules are nonsense, it is "call pocket", not "describe shot"

I also don't play call safe at 10 ball, bullshit rule in my opinion. I have only ever seen it played in some tournaments, definitely not the norm down the pool hall. Rules out two way shots which are a big part of the game.

There are a lot of players that always make up a rule and throw it at you when you are about to win.

One time I caromed my ball off the 8 ball to break it out. The guy yelled foul saying that the 8 ball was poison and any time you hit it was a foul.

Another pulled basically the same when I caromed my ball off of theirs saying I made a bad hit by contacting his ball.

Then the worst is shootin in a shot along the rail and my ball went off the back facing into the pocket a player claimed that I didn't call a bank.

The players do that because they know that they got into a game over their heads and want you to get into a argument trying to make quit the game. I never quit and just say ok I will remember that on your next shot and from now on before I shoot I will get tell you what I am going to do to see if it is legal according to your rules, because you will also have to play by them.

Most times I will still win, take their money and they usually walk away claiming that they have to leave.

That is no accepted or acknowledged rule of 10 Ball. It is one-off gaffe rule used by about 1 tournament director. Just a plain and simple dumb rule. By all means, you should have no right to go for and execute a legally struck ball, and miss.

Part of the problem with your story is how you agreed to play BCA rules but then when the idiot said you had to call caroms and kisses and banks, blah blah, you said " ok, no big deal". That is where you lost it and opened it up to get played.

If it's anything more serious than goofing off with a kid some night after his league is over, I don't play unless it's by published rules, and I make sure to bring them up on my phone so I have them handy at any point. Some of these guys are like those insufferable people at a poker game... "Suicide kings, 7s and 10s wild, trips to win, extra card on a duece, blah blah blah." WTF? Just play the game.

BCA/CSI Rules of 10 Ball are it is a Call Pocket game. If a ball is illegally pocketed, the incoming player has the option to shoot or require the the opponent to shoot again.
The Call Shot/Call Safe rule is a rule that some tournaments have made up to try and take more luck out of the game. All I have witnessed is it slows the game down as players pass on any tough shots and just play safe.

Then what is the reason to ever call a safe when playing 10 ball? I can not see the advantage to ever call a safe if the other player can't give you back the shot if you don't call it and leave him safe.

Looking at bca, wpa, etc rules, they talk about safe shots.

Can anyone give me an example of when to call a safe under bca, wpa, etc rules?

Yes, stay away from these idiots, I made the mistake of thinking he was somebody else.

You NEVER need to call safe.
However most players play more than 1 discipline, 8ball, 9ball, 10ball, 14:1, etc, and for some it just becomes a habit to call a safe.
So when they're playing 10ball they call safe out of habit not necessity.

Only rule I know is if I can beat a guy and he has money, he gets played....why argue with the customer? Have him pay as you go and rob the man. Why kill your own action?
