10 Ball Rules

I am interested in knowing if there are official 10 Ball rules. Are the rules in a 10 Ball ring game different than a 10 ball tournament? Would a 10 ball tournament be played in ring game style?

Ring game question - Shooter misses the object ball entirely.incoming player shoots or passes it back..... from where it is or does the cue ball go behind the line?

Thanks

Ray

ya never pick up the CB in a ring game. this is the answer to many rules questions.

tournaments are not ring games in general, ring game tourneys are listed as such.

On a scratch, the next player takes the Cue Ball behind the line and all balls made spot back up.

Player must try to hit the ball, make an "honest attempt". If he fails to make a good hit, incoming player has the option to take the shot or make previous player shoot again.

we only spot the cheese or the ball before. all other balls stay down 'round here.

Would the rules be like 9 ball in a 10 Ball Tourney...or would you play the same as a ring game? What are your thoughts?

Jay,

Thanks for the input!

Do you'all spot all balls made or only the 9 or 10 like steev and dave fingers?

I play a fun (cheap) 10 ball ring game weekly. We usually spot all balls on fouls but I've played both ways.

Do you mean an honest attempt to "hit" the ball or to "make" the ball?

Unless the tourney is a ring game type tourney, the rules would be more like 9 ball. I have seen tourneys both ways, but the ring game type tourneys are more rare, and are usually an invite only, winner take all, kind of thing. This is due largely to the fact that it would be very hard to do a ring game tourney with more than a few players. Every year here in Az, the points leaders on the all around tour for the year get an invite to a 10-ball ring game tourney. There is also a 10 ball ring game at DCC most years, which I think Alex Pagulayan won last year.

The players should try to make the ball, but this is the idea behind an all offense type of game, not necessarily the rule. Way to many arguments could come up with a rule as subjective as that, and that is why in most places I have played, the rule is a little more clear cut. If you can't see the object ball, you have the choice of making them shoot again, even if they were trying to make the ball. This prevents "accidental" safeties, and eliminates the subjective aspect of trying to decide whether they were trying to make the ball or not.

Jose Parica won last years ring 10 ball game at DCC. We, when you can find one, play spot everything here.

a clarification on how we spot balls in a ring game. if you have the 7 and 10 left, make the 7 and scratch, the 7 spots. it's the ball before the money. i guess what i'm sayin' is, it ain't gotta be the 9.

another ring game thing we do: respots. if you make the 10 out of turn, respot it and keep playing. you can make the $$ ball 3 or 4 times in a rack sometimes, and they all pay :D. this rule has to be agreed upon when you start, obviously.

anyone else really bored at work? i've only been here 15 minutes and i'm ready to leave.

Must make an honest attempt to hit the ball. We spot ALL balls in the Derby City ring game.
