10-ball Sting

My fellow AZ'ers were so good at helping me with this: One-Pocket 9-Ball, I'm hoping you can also help me with 10-ball Sting, a game I've played with some of those people my mom warned me about--the ones who think the best way to keep score is the Benjamin Franklin technique.

If you've not seen it, the basic rules are 10-ball, but with each player drawing one of ten pills. The ten ball is the main money ball. Each player's pill is also money ball. Make your ball, get paid by everybody. Make their ball, they pay you.

I may be confused, but this sounds like "regular" PILL POOL just played with a 10-ball rack instead of a 9-ball rack.

Locally we used to play that you drew a pill and kept it secret.

- if someone made your pill you paid them $2
- if you made your own pill everyone paid you $1
- if you made the 9-ball (or 10-ball in this case) everyone paid you $2

Actually it's a fun way to play.

hi,the game you refer to was and probley still is called kelly.i don't know why.just was.great game.10 ball had to go last.that way every one got killed,unless your pill was the 10.

Kelly pool or pea pool that we used to play involved the full 15 ball rack. Each player drew two peas (pills). The 16 was an automatic break pea, otherwise each player chose one of his two peas as his ball pea and used the other for shooting order. Highest peas shot first.

The ball pea was kept secret until it was made by either the holder or another shooter. If another shooter made your pea ball, you paid him X amount. If you made your own pea ball, each player paid you X amount and a new round was started.

I do vaguely recall the 15 ball being special in some way but can't remember what that was or why.

We played a lot of Kelly pool when I was young and nobody had much money so it couldn't have been too expensive. That's almost 50 years ago so I don't remember the details of the game but you guys sound very close. We played on a snooker table cause their were no pool tables in the old pool halls in those days. Everyone of us kids who played learned everything on a snooker table. Only pool tables were in rich kids houses and none of us were rich kids. In retrospect that ain't a bad way to learn this great game huh??
