10Ball questions

I seldom gamble- therefore I have questions.

I was the weakest shooter in 6 man ring game. Play 5 games, then redraw shooting order. $5 on the 5 (once down its down) and 10, respot 10 if 3 balls up before it. Must make a legit shot at next ball in rotation. If not a good hit, following player can have you shoot again. Scratches- next guy shoots from kitchen- any balls made on the scratch spot in number order.

In the first 15 games I was hooked 8 times. 4 times I had a shot, but no real chance to run to the 5 or 10. 3 times I had chances and blew it twice.

QUESTIONS: Is this typical in 10 ball?
Is it better to play with fewer players?
Is it better to just blast at every opportunity?
Could I have been cutup?/Or just bad rolls?
Should I only gamble heads up?
Anyone want to offer situational advice?
Do I just shutup and stop whining?
How do I get this fish odor off me?

Thanks for listening.

!!!!!!!!!

I'd say you were cut up like a herring. Don't you think you play to good to lose 15 games in a row. If my math is right they made $30.00 apiece.

im not sure if this is out of topic but can i ask how it is racked? preferably a pic :D

Ring games can be fun, or a nightmare if you don't realize REAL quick that you are getting stuck in the middle of 2 other players. 6 handed is a good game, but you MUST get to the money balls when given the chance. If you run 1 rack you have the funds to play 3 more, unless they play double on the run, then you can play 6 more racks!

You also need to realize if you are in over your head. Weaker players like ring games because the no safety rules, and better odds on the win, but stronger players like them more because they get to gamble with more than one guy at a time. For the weaker players in the game it's kind of like a slot machine. you lose, lose, lose....win...lose, lose, lose and win just enough to keep you there a while.

All in all I like ring games. They are great when you get a bunch of people that wont match up but want to play.

Yes.

I prefer to play with 3 to 5 players. More chances to shoot.

Blast probably isn’t the right word. You certainly need to take advantage of every opportunity and try to make something happen. Because 5 players shoot after you and the chances of it coming around again are slim.

I don’t know about being cutup, do you know the players or are they all friends and you’re the fifth wheel. I’ve been in ring games that the very best player didn’t get chances and lost. So, it’s hard to say, but ring games are definitely not fair.

Heads up is good. But, ring games do offer something, although I wonder what sometimes. Basically, if all the other players are way above your skill level then it’s probably a bad idea.

Situational advice! Lean to be creative.

Whining is part of the fun of ring games, the more the better. I’ve never been in a ring game that players did bit*h and moan about rolls.

A good shower should do the trick.

I like Gerry’s analogy of the slot machine. It’s kinda like that.

Yeah, that's typical. If you ran out the 3 chances you had, you might've gotten 3 more chances. Ring games are brutal. But you seem to have gotten a shot of some kind in every game, so if you can run out, you may not be in to far over your head. You just have to get out when you get a chance or get lucky to get ahead.

Six man with top notch players you're not very likely to get a shot in every game.

Practice the ghost by yourself to see how hard it is for you to runout in 10 ball. You have to be a damn good player to break even.

YOU'RE RIGHT!!

After so many "it's hooked-it must be my shot" chances- I pretty much went on tilt. I'll try it again, hopefully with fewer players.

Thanks guys
