"10K a man in the middle"

Nearly 20 years ago when I first heard this in South Philly pool rooms, it was called "in the center". For those who hate "in the middle", you should really hate "in the center". Someone registered in chat should point this out to the TAR announcers. They seem to have a bug up about "in the middle".

We have had this discussion before and it seems while most people would prefer to hear that the players are playing for $5000 instead of playing for $10,000 in the middle the idea that $10K SOUNDS BETTER than 5K is the driving force behind the continued use of in the middle. Also I think that some people somehow think it's cool to use poker terms to describe pool matches.

Not that "in the middle" is a pure poker term but I certainly never heard it applied to pool until TAR started doing it.

For the record I can't stand "in the middle" and I won't use it. If there is $10,000 on the light then you are playing for $5000. Anything else is just "marketing".

It's actually a little insulting to one's intelligence because it doesn't fool anyone. Plus it's obviously deceptive.

Like the 5'2' girl wearing 6' spikes....she's still 5'2', and everyone knows it.

add me to the list that doesn't like it. I also don't like "Their playing for 20k" No, their playing for 10k, he's not winning the 10k that was his.

Now technically, I suppose you could say that. They each put in 10k and now it's no longer theirs. They have both technically "lost" 10k, until someone wins, then they win 20k. When someone wins, he wins 20k but he actually only wins 10k. Get it?

I just want to know how much someone won, I'm smart enough to piece together that the loser lost as much as the winner won:confused::eek:

Personally l like with someone tells me what is in the middle that way I know the exact "1 on 1" pool tournament payout. How many times do you hear what are they playing for? and someone says 5k and the guys total or each? If you say 5k in the middle you already have all the information you need.
